Girl on the Train

Well I've seen the film now and am not sure whether to recommend it or not. It was so so, in my opinion. In Mary Whitehouse mode, I would say too many sex scenes, and I didn't like any of the main characters (though that probably applied to the book too). Emily Blunt was very good, though. DH hadn't read the book, and he enjoyed it.

I read the book earlier this year and thought it was quite good but not as good as all the hype. I saw the film a couple of days ago and enjoyed it although it was set in America. OH had not read the book and said he was bored and spent most of the film thinking about the Mexican meal we were having after the cinema.

Really enjoyed the book but don't fancy the film. I prefer the version in my head.

Oh dear it's not coming to the cinema we go to until mid November and my friend and I were really looking forward to it, now I m not so sure I purposely hadn't read the book so as not to be disappointed if it was very different as this has happened before

The book was OK, the end was very predictable and the only part of its appeal (if that is the right word) is that it was set in England.

I won't be going to see the film.

I think it was an average book; ok as a holiday read perhaps. I was dying to see the film, but what's the point if it's set in America? I agree with a pp that Emily Blunt is too attractive for the part. Rachel was a mess-an overweight alcoholic.

Why do they do these things to potentially decent films?

Found the book depressing so gave up

I read the book and it was hubby who suggested we go to cinema to see it, it was sooooo slow, just the sort of film, that if we had been at home watching it, we would have said (within the first 20 mins), what a load of b*****ks and turned it off. From reading the book, I like another poster, felt the American setting really spoilt it, I had the London train journey in my minds eye whilst reading. We both liked the plot though.

I read the book, it was ok, I cannnot understand why it spent so long at the top of the bestseller lists. I won't see the film. I really don't like the way films and TV programmes are mangled to appeal to the American market.

I read the book, really didn`t like it, couldn`t dredge up any liking for any of the characters, so definitely won`t be seeing the film.

It's had quite bad reviews. I haven't read the book but it sounds good.

I thought the same as the rest of you about the change of scene. When I read the book I could visualise it as a film - in fact, I was cynically thinking it had been written with the film rights in mind. I still want to see the film, but I don't think setting it in America will have done it any favours.

I read the book and enjoyed it. In my mind I could picture the very British houses that back onto railway lines.

I was keen to see the film, but after seeing a trailer I decided that it was one of those stories spoiled by the film. Why was it set in America? Haven't bothered to go to see it, I prefer my own imagination of the story.

Read the book, which I enjoyed enormously, and went to see the film yesterday. Was a bit put off by its being set in New York suburbs though, because as I was reading the book, I pictured the backs of English houses, some shabby with weedy gardens, etc - not at all like the wealthy-looking areas of New York. Quite a dark story, but good, I thought.

I read the book and really liked it. I agree that it's ridiculous to set it in New York. Also, as I recall, the 'girl' was a bit of a mess - overweight and an alcoholic. Emily Blunt isn't how I pictured her at all.

I saw the film yesterday I too thought there was a lot of violence and perhaps too much sex for me......... I also couldn't remember it being set in USA , enjoyed it but not the best, always seem to enjoy the book of the film better nowadays.

I loved the book, but won't bother seeing the film. Setting it in the US seems ridiculous - suppose it's just to appeal to a wider audience.
