Its no use I simply don't see the attractiveness of Aiden Turner as Ross Poldark. He just looks grumpy and a bit smelly most of the time. I like George Warleggan but only because he was such a splendid Freddy Threepwood in the Blandings series.

Oh pooh spoiler ?

Jane10 Mon 26-Sept-16 09:28:54

Yes its not great. I don't know why Ross seems to be such a stranger to soap and water. Everyone else seems to manage. You'd think he might manage to shave before his own son's christening too. It would only mean a short break from all his meaningful silences and general frowning!

I really enjoyed the first series but this one seems very dull and I just keep falling asleep as its so slow.

DH says that "Bodmin" is Malmesbury in Wiltshire, I get a running commentary on all the mines. One thing I noticed was how quickly Demelza's belly popped, deemed to grow during scenes

Pittcity Mon 26-Sept-16 08:51:14

I read that both Aiden and the cameraman were clonked on the head by the boat when filming that scene as the sea was so rough. It was filmed in winter so I don't blame him for wearing something, probably needed a wetsuit underneath!

Chest-hair opportunity missed tonight with the sea-wading scene! Tut tut, BBC. grin

Bellanonna Sun 25-Sept-16 23:11:53

Oh, I think we've missed a lot !

Maggiemaybe Sun 25-Sept-16 23:09:31

Shirt and breeches staying on? In that case I haven't missed much grin

merlotgran Sun 25-Sept-16 22:50:52

Although they went to Bodmin for the assizes, Poldark is set much further south, nearer to Truro.

Angharad Rees was more urchin like as Demelza which is true to the character. I agree this Demelza is too tall.

Bellanonna Sun 25-Sept-16 22:48:40

I expected shirt and breeches to come off before he waded into the sea. Need cheering up a bit. I find watching it quite gloomy. I know they didn't have electricity. Interesting, too, how he lapses into a slight brogue now and then. It must be difficult keeping up another accent all the time.

Ana I'd have put the comma where you did too !

Maggiemaybe Sun 25-Sept-16 22:37:44

Missing it tonight. I'm in Gdansk drinking Goldwasser - there are proper gold flakes in it, it's so exciting (and only 3 quid) - so I'll probably get over it. Looking forward to my Corrie, Poldark, Victora and Archers fest on Wednesday though smile In the meantime, yes please, pour me another Goldwasser....

NotTooOld Sun 25-Sept-16 22:30:02

Ana - yes, she is tall, isn't she? I think you are probably right that a poor girl would have been less well nourished and therefore shorter. Nice hair, though.

Ana Sun 25-Sept-16 22:27:22

(sorry for comma in wrong place there, should have been after 'than')

whitewave Sun 25-Sept-16 22:25:43

Have you ever seen wild primroses such a garish shade of yellow!

Ana Sun 25-Sept-16 22:25:35

But she's so tall!! Would a girl from a poor family in those days really be as tall, if not taller, than all the men? confused

NotTooOld Sun 25-Sept-16 22:22:11

I didn't see it tonight. DH gets exceedingly grumpy because the TV Bodmin apparently looks nothing like the real thing. I thought it was the real thing.

Rosie - thanks for the heads up re AT's ballroom dancing. I bet he'd do a good pasa doble. Let's have him on Strictly.

Re Demelza, I think she is well cast really. She needs to look a bit different to the well bred young ladies, I suppose.

What about a game of "spot the cliché" or "the extra doing something unnecessary"?

So, tonight we had the obligatory scene of riding across the grass land over the sea (cliché, shown every scene, only worth 1 point) BUT meeting an adversary whilst on said ride, threatening conversation, with scowling! A possible 3 points there?

But possibly most points scored in the "extra doing something unnecessary" category for the smock wearing yokel prodding geese around in a pen for no apparent reason! Must be worth a 10?

Rosieroe Mon 19-Sept-16 09:26:23

I noticed his hair seemed longer - but maybe it grew when he was in prison.

George Warleggan is such a superb villain. Someone you really love to hate.

Pittcity Mon 19-Sept-16 08:34:01

There was a lot of scything too, but with clothes on sad

LullyDully Mon 19-Sept-16 07:28:52

I think it's that sometimes his hair is curlier than others. Bless.

kittylester Mon 19-Sept-16 06:45:06

I did last night number - not that I care blush

numberplease Mon 19-Sept-16 00:15:56

I`m +not complaining, because I just like to look at him, but has anyone else noticed how the length of Ross Poldark`s hair changes from scene to scene?

Rosieroe Sun 18-Sept-16 22:52:50

I'm loving this series.

Jane10 Sun 18-Sept-16 22:13:05

At least Mark McManus actually was Scottish and thus had an authentic accent.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 18-Sept-16 22:11:49

Yes! Loved that 'muuurrrderr'. grin
