RIP Carla Lane

"Bread" was on tele the other day but with the second Joey, not the first one, which in my opinion, was better. I loved this programme and used to watch it when I was took hostage in hospital having my daughter 29 years ago due to blood pressure problems. I had a black and white tele brought in, into my side room and we were allowed to have a Guinness as long as we didn't dance on the tables. We waited for the husbands to go home and then we could enjoy ourselves. Funny how someone brings back good memories depending on your own circumstances at the time. for Carla. God Bless. X

Loved the Liver Birds - it was me and my best friend to a T

Loved all her work but identified with Butterflies. Wendy Craig made Ria's character so real, but it was the writing that made it all possible.

I am also a fan of her work. I loved Butterflies, especially as it was set in Cheltenham, where I was living at the time. I even had the same Kenwood chef as Ria, although I hope my cooking was better!

Years later when I had my two boys, there was many an occasion when the sit com reflected true life. Carla Lane has left a great legacy, I hope the BBC show repeats of the series.

I also loved Butterflies- and really everything else that she wrote- so different from today's rubbish.

Sorry, my mistake. I miss quoted the various ages I'd heard. The range was 80's not 70's BBC breakfast said 83.

Mum and gran were surprised (to say the least) when I told them that I know someone with the same name; they thought, as it was a 'made up' combination it would be unique. [smile)

I think Butterflies was my favourite. I identified with Wendy Craig's character. I also wanted her hair and clothes (shallow).
As an aside Alea I met a toddler yesterday named.... Alea., a combination of her great-grandparents names Alice and Eamon. A lovely sunny little soul a bit like your good self.

At least she wasn't taken too soon like Victoria Wood. I loved Liver Birds and Butterflies but for some reason Bread just didn't do it for me.

Always sad when we have to say goodbye to someone who has made us laugh.

The little biopic that comes up on the right hand side of the screen when you google her, says she was born on August 5th 1928, making her just 2 months shy of her 88th birthday.

Sheer genius as Alea said. I must have a look on YouTube for some of her work, she never failed to make me laugh.

87 it said in my paper, ninathenana, she seems to have been "vague" about her age at times. Quite right too, just a number!

Loved her work. I didn't realise she was in her 70s although the media can't decide if she was 78, 73 or 72.

How sad. Carla Lane was one of the greats, absolutely brilliant. Yes, Christinefrane, Carla Lane and Victoria Wood were two of my favourites too.

I agree Alea, brilliant writer. Along with Victoria Wood Carla Lane was one of my favourites . God bless.
