For some reason I found myself tuned into this programme last night and was too lazy to turn it off, I watched in mounting disbelief at the worse load of tosh I have seen in years. Awful acting, unbelievable situations, terrible scripts, staff, both 'nurses and doctors' acting like teenagers.....

Is it always this dreadful? hmm

Has a new series of ER been produced recently. Maybe I was dreaming

Nelliemoser Mon 11-Jul-16 07:42:28

Anya I agree. It has deteriorated badly over the years. They have exhausted all the good stories and its becoming plain stupid now with any hint of realism gone out of the window.

I think Holby City is even worse as far as any realism goes.

The documentary 24 hours in A&E is much better. Some medical drama and lots of fascinating and real life stories some tragic and others life enhancing. Real characters and the staff talk about their work and how they feel about it.

I loved Chicago Hope! Does anyone remember Cardiac Arrest - that was brilliant.

ninathenana Mon 11-Jul-16 07:31:51

Yes I remember enjoying Chicago Hope number can't remember any of the doctors or nurses though.

Anya I do so agree. The same fate once befell me - stuck on the sofa, too tired to go and get the remote and horror of horrors, Casualty on the box. Every aspect, the plot(?) the acting, the dialogue - all utterly dreadful. I half expected Mrs Overall to come staggering in! Even Crossroads was intellectual in comparison.grin

Anno, the doctor you`re remembering was Dr. Simon Forrester, and I agree, he was gorgeous! There was also Dr. Paddy O`Mara, played by Glyn Owen.
I`m another who regrets the finishing of ER, but was never really keen on the George Clooney character.
Does anyone remember Chicago Hope? The doctors weren`t particularly sexy or desirable, but it was a good programme that just seemed to disappear.
Still love Casualty though. I lost interest in Holby City after Mr.Meyer left, I thought he was delicious. "Walk with me."

I adored John Alderton in Emergency Ward 10. I'm always horrified to see how old he looks now because I haven't aged at all grin

kittylester Sun 10-Jul-16 19:31:09

Weren't Pauline Collins and John Alderton in Emergency Ward 10?

hulahoop Sun 10-Jul-16 18:40:04

I remember emergency ward 10being one of the first things I watched on television
Some of you have very good memories I can't remember any names I don't think I was
Very old that's my excuse

ninathenana Sun 10-Jul-16 15:19:28

I fell in love with Dr Doug #swoon still love George.
ER was brilliant.

Greyduster Sun 10-Jul-16 13:31:37

I'm another who thinks it's a load of tosh. I don't like many of the characters and think Holby is just as bad. ER was fantastic - I was truly upset when it finished. I remember watching Emergency Ward 10. Desmond Carrington was very handsome! Does he still have a show on radio 2? Then we all went potty as teenagers for Richard Chamberlain as Dr Kildare. Funny how we get hung up on hospital soaps when hospitals are the last thing you ever want to have to think about in real life!

annodomini Sun 10-Jul-16 13:15:35

Emergency Ward 10 - I loved it as a teenager and really fancied one of the young doctors, called Simon, I think. I don't know if Casualty has spawned any stars, but George Clooney was the wonderful Dr Doug in ER; and St Elsewhere had Denzel Washington.

Eloethan Sun 10-Jul-16 13:09:25

Yes, it has got increasingly silly, with the most ridiculous plotlines. I don't expect what is essentially a "soap" to be very realistic but there are limits.

I remember watching General Hospital which on at lunchtime in the 70s. Linda Bellingham was one of the nurses.

Christinefrance Sun 10-Jul-16 12:23:32

I remember Emergency Ward 10 but not in great detail. Think there was a nurse called Carol and a Dr Dawson. I like to watch The Royal as my nurse uniform was exactly like that. Matron was all powerful but not as pleasant as Wendy Craig.

Marmight Sun 10-Jul-16 09:13:34

I remember watching Emergency Ward 10 as a small girl - I was 'in love' with Dr Dawson played by Charles Tingwell! However, Richard Chamberlain as Dr Kildare was definitely 'the one' blush

Marmight Sun 10-Jul-16 09:08:32

Strangely, I watched it recently for the first time in years. I couldn't believe the acting was so dreadful, story line so rubbish and what the heck is Charlie still doing there? He must be at least as old as I am shock. He's such a drip - well, they all are in my opinion. Won't be looking at it again in a hurry.....

Mumsy Sun 10-Jul-16 09:07:08

Vaguely Anya I was only a kid lol, I do remember Dr Kildare though!! swoooonnnnn

Greenfinch Sun 10-Jul-16 09:06:00

Yes I do Anya and I totally agree with your original post.

Anya Sun 10-Jul-16 08:56:02

Anyone remember Emergency Ward 10?

PRINTMISS Sun 10-Jul-16 08:49:47

Light entertainment on a Saturday evening, and really quite a load of rubbish, but so what, we watch it anyway. This week anything is better than sport!

Alima Sun 10-Jul-16 08:27:30

Lofty is coming back, maybe there is still a chance Robyn will get together with him!

Christinefrance Sun 10-Jul-16 08:23:46

I agree mumofmadboys the beginning was particularly stupid, even the actors seemed uncomfortable with it. I still enjoy the programme in the main but as I said before think it's a victim of dumbing down.

ninathenana Sun 10-Jul-16 08:11:25

David and Robyn hmm
That's an interesting one kitty grin

No, we know no more than the fact he's never had a wife..

mumofmadboys Sun 10-Jul-16 07:56:03

I watch Casualty and have done for years but last night's programme seemed particularly puerile at the beginning with the jokes. between Connie, Charlie and Jacob!

Alima Sun 10-Jul-16 07:33:38

I have been watching it since the start in '86. Must be some sort of OCD, it is the same with 'Enders and Mars Bars. Apparently there is a 30th anniversary special in September and several old characters are going to pop up. Would love to see Robyn happily settled. What exactly is it with her latest boyfriend? I got that he lied about his wife but have they explained it yet? Really should'nt watch these challenging progs, do tend to lose the plot.
