Did any of you see the revealing programme on BBC1 on Tuesday about the changing face of the East End, where many cockneys have moved out and they are the minority in that area ?

IMO It was presented in a non racist way, more a stating of facts.

But it did leave me with the sad feeling that the Cockneys no longer have their home. I wondered how I would feel if I was the minority in my home town, I would not like it.

Yes, H and I watched it. He's a North London boy. It's not just the East ender's that are moving out. He and his sisters and a lot of his friends have too but it's as much for financial reasons as the multi culture.
I agree it gave a pretty balanced view. There was talk of "our own. kind" though and not wanting daughters to bring home someone who wasn't white British

It's worth watching, funny, sad and also reminded people of a different life there in the 50s/60s.

I was born in the heart of Birmingham and I remember my mum saying how Handsworth Wood was changing and we moved 25 miles away. I still think fondly of my early years there.
