Only Connect - can we raise a team?

Do you watch Only Connect presented by Victoria Coren? Would you like to be in a team?
We've been discussing getting a team for Eggheads together (On the 15 Minutes of Fame thread) but have missed the closing date.
Only Connect has been suggested but, again, the closing date is soon.
If you'd like to be on it please post, thanks!

Have set The Chase to record Elrel . Are you Nigel or Aubrey?

Only Connect have sent me an application form. At the end is an OC type quiz for the team of three to do together, under exam conditions, in 15 minutes. Unless everyone willing to be in the team turns out to live fairly near each other I don't think we can do that. Consultation is allowed but not, of course, use of any reference books or online sites.

Since I use an iPad and my elderly desktop seems to be creaking to a standstill now, I can't actually fill the form in either. My two nearest local libraries have closed so I can't easily use a public computer either.

Closing date for applications is 4th February. I'd still quite like to have a go if anyone is willing and able to take over the organising. PM me with your email and I'll forward the form if you might be able to help.

I think this is turning out to be one of my impetuous ideas destined to come to nothing!

Anyone wanting to see me embarrass myself on The Chase should watch next Monday's show ....

Good luck, though, if you manage to make up a team.

I find it far too depressing to watch - I hardly ever get any of the connections and it makes me feel utterly stupid.

Tricia - thanks!
We have to apply for Eggheads towards the end of this year. It needs 6 people, the team leader fills in one form for everyone. Then we'd have to choose where we'd prefer to be auditioned, interesting as the six would probably be from all over the country. It is a more appealing show in some ways but needs more organisation.

Although the OC semi final was daunting we've still time to apply for the next series. Again we'd presumably have to complete a single form and attend an audition.

If we went for Eggheads we could all play to our strengths. I know that I am good at Arts and Books and History, passable at Food and Drink and Film and TV, and pretty bad at Sport, Geography and Politics. Music is the most problematic, not many people have intimate knowledge of current hits and Baroque choral music!

We have watched every series of Only Connect, and sometimes get at least one line on The Wall, and can make it through the first round in the early stages of the series. So no good us coming on - they were appealing for new entrants last night, but we agreed we don't need an excuse to look stupid! smile

The scores were very low compared to the usual.
I think it's different trying to answer the questions alone, rather than in a small group. The group can pool their ideas and often come up with a better answer.
Good luck Elrel if you manage to form a team.

Yes, completely flummoxed by most of last night's questions - but then so were both of the teams...

Teetime Tue 05-Jan-16 09:57:32

Oh dear I struggled last night but loved Victoria eating all the cake!

goose1964 Tue 05-Jan-16 06:59:44

I love the programme but I usually only get one or 2 answers eight although I'm pretty good at the missing vowels

I won`t put my name forward, we only watched about 10 minutes of it tonight, and decided it wasn`t for us.

Elrel Tue 05-Jan-16 00:28:21

That semi-final was hard!!
Thank you, Anya, Deedaa, GrannyasNanny

A joke I believe!

Pittcity Mon 04-Jan-16 21:10:44

Tonight's was really difficult and did Victoria eat all the cake?

Deedaa Sun 03-Jan-16 21:18:33

I would love to have a go at either, although I suspect I might do better on Eggheads rather than Only Connect. I have days when I get all the connections straight off but others when I just sit there totally blank hmm

TriciaF Sun 03-Jan-16 20:03:57

I would love to take part - we've watched from the start. But my mind isn't quick enough or flexible enough. Sometimes ok on the wall, and the missing letters, but no good otherwise !
Husband likes Victoria - she's a good poker player.

I still haven`t seen Only Connect, will watch it, hopefully, tomorrow.

GrannyAsNanny Sun 03-Jan-16 15:50:32

Count me in for Only Connect and/or Eggheads. I'm a glutton for punishment...

Teetime Sun 03-Jan-16 15:45:07

Yes she is and I like them both - probably because DH and I have a similar style in humour.

Anya Sun 03-Jan-16 14:57:05

I'd be happy to be part of an Eggheads team Elrel as I'm a ex-Merseyside Quiz League player. Best subject is Science.

I like Victoria's dry sense of humour - isn't she married to comedian David Mitchell?

annodomini Sun 03-Jan-16 14:15:41

Luckygirl, I agree with you. My sister 'can't stand that awful woman' but I think the persona she presents is an ironic self-parody. She's different on HIGNFY.

annodomini Sun 03-Jan-16 14:13:06

Much as I enjoy the programme, and occasionally beat the contestants to a correct answer, I know I'd 'freeze' on TV.

ninathenana Sun 03-Jan-16 13:57:52

Probably Luckygirl grin
I'd much rather listen to her husband.

Elrel Sun 03-Jan-16 13:28:31

Thanks Teetime!
