What a disappointing end to the series. Soooo happy ever after .

Ana Sun 27-Dec-15 14:53:19

x posts rose, I was talking about the scene filmed at Beamish Museum only lasting for a very short time.

rosequartz Sun 27-Dec-15 14:56:18

You're right Ana, we couldn't work out who she was! Thankyou

Very suitable for a chauffeur turned nearly aristocrat!
But who will be left to run the magazine when they have all moved 'oop North'?

Ana Sun 27-Dec-15 15:00:57

Spratt? He could leave Lady Violet to the ministrations of the awful Denker and run the magazine as well as writing his Agony column.

Perfect solution! tchgrin

durhamjen Sun 27-Dec-15 15:12:38

Not bothered about the spoilers, roseq. I expected happy endings.
I can pause on the Beamish scenes and look at Beamish for as long as I like.

By the way, it's up North anyway. It's only an hour from Beamish to halfway between Ripon and Thirsk, in a fast car.

Ceesnan Sun 27-Dec-15 15:13:04

No Anniebach, I didn't recall the time - my memory isn't that good smile. I went back to check after you had denied saying mini disaster just in case I had allocated the phrase to the wrong person. If that had been the case then I would, of course, have apologised.

rosesarered Sun 27-Dec-15 15:13:39

I rather like Spratt, a good minor character.

rosesarered Sun 27-Dec-15 15:16:22

djen as Ana says, blink and you miss the Beamish scene, a quick glimpse of a few old cars and that's it!

rosesarered Sun 27-Dec-15 15:18:14

Who wants a mini disaster ( or a major one either) when the finale was so wonderful.I may watch it again later today.

rosesarered Sun 27-Dec-15 15:19:21

Thanks yogagirl for the fashions at Downton link.?

rosesarered Sun 27-Dec-15 15:26:19

Apolgies, that is yogagran?

etheltbags1 Sun 27-Dec-15 16:28:18

I loved it, a bit predictable but still a lovely ending.

durhamjen Sun 27-Dec-15 16:55:04

Also the library is in Alnwick Castle which is where my father in law was given his BEM by the then Duke of Northumberland, so I'll have to pause that as well to look at it in more detail.
Roses, I assume the few old cars are the ones that are permanently in Beamish, the ones I have seen twice already this month. Like old friends.

Anniebach Sun 27-Dec-15 17:23:18

Wish Lady Violet had caught the wedding bouquet

Purpledaffodil Sun 27-Dec-15 17:32:13

After a day which started briefly at 3am, then was filled with fun, family and endless catering from 7am onwards, I found DA exactly met my needs. Didn't want gritty realism or a repeat of that awful one which killed off Matthew. Future DIL has refused to watch it until she had confirmation it was a happy, not sad finale. Fair enoughsmile

Iam64 Sun 27-Dec-15 17:48:01

For me Purpledaffodil, that's the whole point - some escapism, wonderful clothes and scenery and best of all, redemption and resolution. Thanks for those who helped me recall who the bouquet catcher is. This time of year can be a challenge to the most resilient amongst us and getting lost in something so entertaining is just what many of us need.

rosequartz Sun 27-Dec-15 18:39:08

Wish Lady Violet had caught the wedding bouquet tchgrin
Is there anyone old enough for her?
Anyway, she has had her fling with Prince Wotzisnaminov

rosequartz Sun 27-Dec-15 18:40:37

Spratt? He could leave Lady Violet to the ministrations of the awful Denker and run the magazine as well as writing his Agony column.
Two minds Ana - I was going to suggest him but I couldn't remember his name blush

Greenockgran Sun 27-Dec-15 18:42:28

I liked it. I hope nobody put my smiley aww face on you tube. The younger generation have a habit of doing that.

merlotgran Sun 27-Dec-15 19:01:16

Poor little Marigold. Dragged around from pillar to post then finds happiness and security in the Downton nursery. Now she's been uprooted to Alnwick Brancaster Castle, away from her cousins and eventually doting family.

She'll be brought up in isolation in Patricia Hodge's 'What I Call Castle' grin

durhamjen Sun 27-Dec-15 19:13:28

Roses, there was at least three minutes of the car dealership, and I think the hospital meeting was in the masonic hall there.
The alleyway that Tom and Henry walked out of is the one to the back of the sweetshop where they still make sweets how they used to. If you go there at the right time, you can try them freshly made.

Indinana Sun 27-Dec-15 19:42:33

Oh yes rq I do believe you're right. I was a little puzzled because the schoolmistress was a brunette and this girl's hair was much fairer.

Purpledaffodil Sun 27-Dec-15 21:46:02

Beautifully expressed Iam64.
Sometimes one does need some froth! grin

rosequartz Sun 27-Dec-15 22:09:59

merlotgran tchgrin
In fact lol (DH is wondering why I am giggling)

rosequartz Sun 27-Dec-15 22:11:38

Ana solved the mystery Indinana tchsmile

rosequartz Sun 27-Dec-15 22:47:33

anniebach have you been watching *And Then There Were None'?
You may enjoy it if you don't like happy endings! tchwink
