Spent a happy hour last week, leafing through the Christmas TV magazine and ticking all the programmes that I want to watch or record to watch later. there was a surprising amount ( we have Sky which helps.) Most of all I want to watch the Christmas Downton.?

I'm looking forward to Dickensian which has two half hour slots on Boxing Day. I am intrigued!

I felt the same about Boomers. Was looking forward to it, but it was disappointing, apart from the wonderful Alison Steadman.

Watched Boomers, not really funny, but I still find it watchable ( while doing other things, like wrapping presents.)

Tonight is mostly comedy on BBC1, with Eastenders in the middle. Nothing noteworthy though.
I like Not Going Out, which is back.

nina well I watched the canal in total!!! I love all things country especially the peace and tranquility. May record the sleigh as have been invited out for drinks but will keep it to watch sometime over the Christmas period.

Didn't realise Detectorists was on tonight; would have missed it. I've been watching 'Back in time for Christmas on catchup' and it's so funny/fascinating. Did'y'know that, in the 50's people bought fake snow to spread around their house. It was made of asbestos shock. I may make the grandchildren watch it as it would be an eye opener to them [not the asbestos bit but the food that we ate and the presents we had or, more to the point, didn't have]. I was chuffed to see Jaimie and Alex do so well on Pointless. I think my love of the programme [which totally goes against every Socialist principle I've ever had] is due to my 60's dream of moving to London and living in a bedsit; probably due to that tv series 'Take Three Girls'. The nearest I got was a bedsit in a red light area of Birmingham sad.

Detectorists and Boomers tonight.
I am surprised how much I identify with the latter!

NanKate I'm surprised you haven't seen It's a Wonderful Life that and White Christmas (which was on, on Sunday) are a must for a lot of people tchsmile

ninathenana Tue 22-Dec-15 16:27:53

Alima yes we watched the gorillas, fascinating program.

whitewave do you intend having the sleigh ride on in the back ground or sitting down in front of the screen? I couldn't sit through the two or however many hours there is.

I am not surprised that anyone watches Made in Chelsea. A couple of the men were on Pointless the other day. The dark haired one, possibly Alex. Very pleasing to the eye!
The only film I fancy watching is Made in Leith. Will have to record it as will be with DD1 next week.

Tegan Tue 22-Dec-15 10:42:40

I caught a snippet of it but am ashamed to say I was watching Made in Chelsea [my guilty pleasure programme]. I'll check it out on catchup. I need to go through the Radio Times and work out what we need to watch, although I quickly went through the film section and couldn't find any films I want to see. By the way, if anyone has a Radio Times there is a Mothercare/ELC voucher for £5 off if you spend £25 and a copy of Stick Man [you don't have to purchase anything to get that].

Did anyone watch the programme about gorillas on Two last night. Beautiful. Showed how a silverback made a wonderful father. His brother was a wicked uncle though!

whitewave Tue 22-Dec-15 09:22:40

Definitely A Sleigh Ride on Christmas Eve. I watched the canal journey and loved it - so serene and calm. Gorgeous.

Pittcity Tue 22-Dec-15 08:07:16

NanKate, It's a Wonderful Life should be a compulsory Christmas watch. A fabulous film!

NanKate Tue 22-Dec-15 06:29:24

Have any of you ever seen 'A Wonderful Life' which is on over Xmas. My DS lent me the video a couple of years back but have never got round to watching it ?

I will be watching Sherlock, and a Shaun the Sheep with my two GSs.

fungus the bogeyman, takes me back to when the boys were small and sherlock

Having sort of collapsed into the armchair after racing around like a blue arsed fly today, I have been so p* bored of the crap on television.

Every individual show, whatever it is about, has their presenters dressing up in fake Christmas costume, probably filmed months ago and pretending to be all jolly and seasonal. Fake snow flying about everywhere like the worst christmas cards.
With which rant grumpy old Nelliem will leave the subject for a while. No good films until Xmas eve. I did miss a Shrek film which looked fun.

etheltbags1 Mon 21-Dec-15 21:48:49

I will be watching Downton, the Queen, the sound of music, endeavour and any vintage comedy such as the two Ronnies and Morcambe and Wise. Oh and the carry one films too.

whitewave Mon 21-Dec-15 21:46:22

I watched "White Christmas" right through for the first time today. Delightful. What tiny waists the females had. Different shape to today's girls.

TwiceAsNice Mon 21-Dec-15 21:43:28

Call the Midwife, the Strictly Christmas special, the University Challenge Christmas shows with Alumni competing,The Snowman with the grandchildren

rubylady Sun 20-Dec-15 15:41:59

I did catch The Muppets film the other day, which was excellent, watching it on my own tchsmile

I also watched Porrige Christmas Special, I'm taping The Good Life along with Some Mothers, Morecambe and Wise and also the Abba concert.

I'm having a 70's Christmas and will also visit some of the Carry Ons being shown through Christmas Day.

My up to date viewing will be Michael McIntyre, Corrie (of course) and Eastenders.

I find that it's the programmes/films that you come across from flicking through that are the best and most surprising, ie The Muppets, wonderful and enchanting.

Merry Christmas Everyone.

Cor! What a clash of titans!

Pittcity Sun 20-Dec-15 08:42:48

Today they have put SPOTY on at the same time as The Sound of Music Live.

harrigran Sat 19-Dec-15 23:55:54

There is a programme about Dad's army that I fancy, Agatha Christie, Downton, call the midwife.

whitewave Sat 19-Dec-15 23:01:25

Just looked through tv guide - very little on for adults.
