Won't spoil it for those that intend watching.
I enjoyed it, I don't think the sex scenes added anything though. DH seemed uncomfortable during those scenes.
That was my beach they were on smile

How interesting.

I was enthralled by it but DH went into the other room as he thought it was boring!!!!! Seems pretty common according to the rest of you. I thought it was good slow but that was part of the intrigue.

Seems I shall be watching it alone next week.

whitewave Tue 10-Nov-15 10:46:51

Mum just phoned and raved about this - I haven't watched it yet. Mum said it was so BBC and classy, absolutely wonderful, so I'm looking forward to it.

whitewave Tue 10-Nov-15 10:39:07

Why do men feel so uncomfortable with gay scenes? I don't feel the same about lesbian scenes. It is what it is.

Coolgran65 Tue 10-Nov-15 10:35:22

grannyknot lol......
DH is wonderful .....but not I'm afraid when it comes to scenes such as this.

Eloethan Tue 10-Nov-15 10:30:19

I feel uncomfortable with sex scenes too but it makes no difference to me whether they're gay or straight. I agree with jingle - I thought the relationship between these two men was loving and very poignant.

trisher Tue 10-Nov-15 10:26:38

Thought it was brilliant. Such a sense of threat and uncertainty. The three main actors were fantastic. I thought the sex was fine just part of the story and showing there was real love there.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 10-Nov-15 10:22:10

Do you know, because there seemed to be so much love and kindness involved, the sex scene made me more understanding of gay people. It just seemed right.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 10-Nov-15 10:19:38

Oh yes Eloethan! It does seem to tie in with that case. I can't wait for next episode. Hope it stays as good.

Grannyknot Tue 10-Nov-15 10:03:31

coolgran unintentional LOL - I do encourage him to give and take a little more.

I presume you mean re the viewing.

Lona Tue 10-Nov-15 09:12:44

I watched because of Ben Wishaw but I wouldn't have bothered otherwise. I made the 'body in the bag' connection but mostly it reminded me of Stephen Fry and his newish husband.
I'll give it another week I think.

ninathenana Tue 10-Nov-15 08:56:32

I agree J52 the first episode was not what I was expecting.
I will stick with it now the spy element is to the fore.
It's only three episodes isn't it?

mollie Tue 10-Nov-15 08:44:23

These days I turn away from most sex scenes, gay or straight. Last night he buried his head in the computer and I became fascinated by my phone. But we stuck with it because we wanted to see what came next. And yes, I saw the connection to the spy in the sports bag story too although there is a disclaimer at the end of the programme.

J52 Tue 10-Nov-15 08:39:46

I thought it was a spy drama! Which of course it is - eventually. The love story bit I understood, for the dramatic effect, but there was so little spy intreague I wondered if it would ever happen. The last 10 mins were more like it!

When is Charlotte Rampling going to appear? Jim Broadbent was excellent, he's usually playing a downtrodden better half.

Not sure if I'll bother next week.

Marmark1 Tue 10-Nov-15 08:35:31

Not for me.I don't want to see two men slobbering over each other.Bad enough a man and woman.
And I've got nothing against gays or anybody else.Just don't want it in my face.

Grannyknot Tue 10-Nov-15 08:10:22

And I do like Ben Wishart!

Grannyknot Tue 10-Nov-15 08:08:50

I thought it was flipping awful.

Pittcity Tue 10-Nov-15 08:02:06

It is a love story and nobody would have been shocked if it was heterosexual.
Personally I just looked as the sex scene as a bit of eye candy telling DH it was a pity they were gay.
I am intrigued now by all the clues and will be watching more.

Coolgran65 Tue 10-Nov-15 00:53:12

I found the sex scene just a little more explicit than necessary.
The scene could have taken place with just a little of the .....""less is more"" .......

DH who is ex Royal Navy followed by 30 years law enforcement says about such scenes...."they'll soon be making it compulsory".
I do try to encourage him to give and take a little more.

whitewave Mon 09-Nov-15 23:48:51

Oh yes I remember that.

Eloethan Mon 09-Nov-15 23:27:35

I thought it was really good too. I read that it was loosely based on the case of the young MI5 agent who was found dead in his flat, having reportedly "locked himself in a suitcase".

tanith Mon 09-Nov-15 22:57:38

I enjoyed it but I'm sure OH would of been uncomfortable watching it but he was out.
It was a bit obvious but still enjoyable.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 09-Nov-15 22:51:59

The sex scenes were an integral part of it. It was done so well. It seemed to be more about love.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 09-Nov-15 22:50:20

I was going to start a thread opn it! hmm grin

I thought it was really good - beautiful, confusing, and so sad. Where is it going next?

(It could never be anything but beautiful with Ben Wishaw in it)

rosesarered Mon 09-Nov-15 22:22:32

We Watched it for ten mins, then DH said " Humphhh! A gay thing, not watching that!" As I wasn't bothered about watching it in the first place, and had phone calls to make, he switched on to some sport instead.

Lilygran Mon 09-Nov-15 22:20:33

I'd like to see where it's going. I wish modern directors didn't seem to believe that 'film noir' means 'in the dark'
