A good episode tonight. Poor old Lordy. Those Downton women are so thin that I cannot eat my tube of Smarties while I'm watching them as they make me feel guilty.

Anniebach Tue 10-Nov-15 23:27:00

The one time I did it I raced into a shop -I was parked outside , well semi parked ! and begged the tv repair chap there to go sort it out , he did bless him , even more embarrassing - I worked in a garage at the time and often delivered cars back to their owners , wretched tv chap was a member of the golf club , big joke , not

rosequartz Tue 10-Nov-15 22:26:29

Very, very embarrassing.

Anniebach Tue 10-Nov-15 22:24:43

But your pride was ?

rosequartz Tue 10-Nov-15 22:21:57

No other cars or pedestrians were hurt during my parking episode grin

rosequartz Tue 10-Nov-15 22:19:10

I remember him because I had a Reginald Molehusband moment outside Debenhams in Plymouth when the whole car seemed to end up on the pavement - with a large crowd around blush

Ana Tue 10-Nov-15 22:15:52

It's the name, merlot - who could forget a name like that? grin

merlotgran Tue 10-Nov-15 22:11:26

Crumbs! You have very good memories.....I had to google him.

Gagagran Tue 10-Nov-15 20:50:38

"People came from far and wide...." Poor old Molehusband! grin

Ana Tue 10-Nov-15 20:12:53

Ooh, I remember that ad! grin

rosequartz Tue 10-Nov-15 20:08:13

Sorry, Molehusband ... blush

rosequartz Tue 10-Nov-15 20:07:17

Yes, Molesley, when I typed it it didn't seem right!

His first name isn't Reginald .....

Ana Tue 10-Nov-15 19:39:00

Yes, it is Molesley, Nigglynellie - I thought there was something not right about 'Molesworth'...grin

rosequartz Tue 10-Nov-15 19:23:21

Yes tanith, but Molesworth, despite being cleverer than many Oxford or Cambridge graduates, is only a footman whereas Thomas is under-butler - can he lower himself?

he's almost likeable. and very delicious in RL blush

nigglynellie Tue 10-Nov-15 19:18:37

Isn't he called Mr Moseley? or have I missed something here?!!

tanith Tue 10-Nov-15 18:50:35

Molesworth will be leaving to teach maybe making way for Thomas to stay on... [its only a programgrin ] his character has changed so much he's almost likeable.

merlotgran Tue 10-Nov-15 18:14:19

They're allowing Thomas to stay on because he slit his wrists which must mean there was work for him after all. hmm

Ana Tue 10-Nov-15 18:02:26

grin

Yes I agree - it's only towards the end of this last series that he's become so obviously pompous and more snobbish than his employers.

Perhaps he's finally realised that it's the end of an era and his days as butler are numbered...or am I over-thinking this? (note to self the same as yours, Jane!)

rosequartz Tue 10-Nov-15 17:46:51

I'm still pinning my hopes on Gregson's return --dead or not--

LOL gillybob - let's hope it's the latter

I still don't understand how Carson came to be quite such a stuffed shirt in this series. This is the man who used to be part of a music hall duo, who was Lady Mary's shoulder to cry on when she was growing up, who always tempered his sternness with a degree of compassion - or did I get it wrong?

He is just a completely pompous pain in the proverbial now.
Perhaps he doesn't quite understand what a 'full marriage' means - he certainly needs something to cheer him up grin

I feel very sorry for Imelda Staunton Mrs Hughes Carson

Jane10 Tue 10-Nov-15 16:39:06

A further refinement -Carson reminds me of 'The Count' in Sesame st. Is that still on? I used to love watching it when the DCs were little.
What fun they'll all have when they retire. Mrs Patmore and her house of ill repute, the Carsons and their 'full' marriage etc. I wish nice Mr Molesworth and that lady's maid would get together and adopt that miserable one (can't remember names today!). Note to self-its not real Jane!

ninathenana Tue 10-Nov-15 09:26:01

Now you say it gillybob...........
grin

gillybob Tue 10-Nov-15 08:40:00

I'm still pinning my hopes on Gregson's return. dead or not

It would have been nice for Edith to get one up on her dreadful sister by marrying "above her" though wouldn't it? Couldn't see Edith with that wet blanket guy unless his mother suddenly pops off.

I agree with you about Carson ninathenana he is more snobby than all the Grantham's put together. What she would ever see in him I fail to think. He reminds me of a vampire.

Iam64 Tue 10-Nov-15 08:29:58

Yes, Mary behaved very badly indeed but as her father commented she "isn't always very kind". Sibling rivalry is a terrible thing but very common as we know from many discussions on gransnet.
I thought the way in which Edith explained to Mary that she'd come to the wedding because one day, they'd be the only people alive who shared those family memories. That's what gets many of us through the irritation caused by siblings with whom we share our closest and longest relationships in life.

Even had Mr Wimp not inherited a title, I suspect the fear of his mother's reaction along with social constraints at that time, would have had him running for the hills if Edith had told him about Marigold. Yes, of course she should have done but perhaps in her heart, she knew he'd run. (don't anybody tell me it isn't real……)

ninathenana Tue 10-Nov-15 00:08:25

ill not I'll

ninathenana Tue 10-Nov-15 00:07:25

They'd have to have the same cast for a film. It just wouldn't be the same otherwise.
I forgot to say in my earlier post. That Mary wasn't the only one who annoyed me last night. I wanted to slap Carson too. 're: Mrs. Patmore' s "house of I'll repute" grin

rosequartz Mon 09-Nov-15 20:32:01

grin
but I might miss something!
