Did anyone watch the first of this series last night? Enchanted Islands indeed. It was absolutely mesmerising. The way the deer strolled into the little town and had learned to bow their heads to the people as the Japanese people bow to each other and the cherry blossom festival. Worth a look if you can catch it.

It was beautiful , brought back memories , I wasn't that keen on the deer , they followed us for food all the time

Oh really aggie? I loved that they mingled with the people and bowed smile

Such an interesting programme. Their cultivation of the land in such interesting patterns and levels was awesome. I'll be watching them all.

Katy , if you weren't carrying food they kind of ignored us but when I had a biscuit I got an enormous nudge on the hip from one , scared the life outa me . Mostly in Japan it is frowned on to eat in the street, or was when I was there , the gardens round Kyoto were beautiful and that Temple was being renovated , I "bought " a roof tile and wrote my name on it . I was not fond of the monkeys , they snatched food as well and were all over one temple garden , I got frowned on for not showing enough respect to them !

aggie - how wonderful to have visited Japan. I've only fed deer at National Trust places and the safari park! I can see what you mean about the monkeys. I like to see them from afar but I would find them a bit scary close up.

I love Japan and the people are wonderful (apart from DS's ex-wife, that is!) We found it such a peaceful, serene place and a mad frenetic place too.

I'm going to watch it now [I'd forgotten about it so thanks for reminding me!]. Hope it's as good as 'Wild China' which I can watch over and over again. I'd love to go to Japan one day.
