Inspector George Gently.

Did anybody else notice a silly anachronism in last night's Inspector Gently. When they were observing arrivals at the brothel in the opening scenes they described to Ford Zephyr (lovely car, by the way) as having the registration number HUA 222B, but when the WPC was trying to trace the owner of it she gave the number over the telephone as B222 HUA (which would denote a vehicle registered in 1984).

It was half an hour too long.
I had a skirt like the one you mentioned TriciaF' M&S I think, it went on forever. We always tucked our sweaters in didn't we?
To sum up, didn't enjoy it apart from the fashion spotting.smile

Yes, it was a bit drawn out last night- not as good as last week's episode. I also hate to see all of the smoking- there is a fug in the room so many are at it. I also thought that the ending could have been better.

I'm not so keen on it now. Finding the acting a bit wooden at times, even dare I say it Martin Shaw at times.

TriciaF Thu 14-May-15 10:11:16

I enjoyed last night's episode, probably partly because of the settings in the town I know so well. And the stories relate to local history at the time ie the T.Dan Smith era for this one.
Glad that Rachel is now wearing "civvies" - I had a skirt once like that bias checked one, a bit longer though.

I really like the way they are portraying the pw, sensible, bright and with a sense of humour. Not so sure that she would have got away with being quite as cheeky with her bosses in real life though!

It was a bit of a muddle wasn't it, and a very odd ending.

I like Bacchus - I think he's basically OK. Some of his views and comments are obnoxious but were probably the norm in those days. Insp. Gently is ahead of his time.

No it's not one of the best was it.

pompa Wed 13-May-15 21:33:36

Not one of the best

Mishap Wed 13-May-15 21:30:08

Yes - it was rather dull I have to say.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 13-May-15 21:27:48

Told you. hmm

Jane10 Wed 13-May-15 21:01:41

Oh no. Something's wrong. Am finding tonight's episode boring. What's wrong with me?!

kittylester Sun 10-May-15 15:28:15

Don't you think that Bacchus is beginning to see the error of his ways? I think that was quite typical of that era. (I am only on part 2,the asbestos one, so might think differently after part 3)

Judge John Deed is being shown on Drama Channel on Saturday afternoon at about 4pm if you want extra measures of Martin Shaw,he is certainly the most attractive man on TV at the moment and gets better with age imo.

TriciaF Sun 10-May-15 09:16:14

Although the John Bacchus character is unpleasant, I think Lee Ingleby acts the part so well, he seems real. He's been in loads of other things, plays very different characters.
Evidently he's going to be Bob the Builder next smile

Have never found Martin Shaw appealing tbh. However, he is quite a good actor, so enjoyed the episode I recorded ( the brothel one) and bought it was all very sixties and authentic, sets, cars, clothes, attitudes, language etc.Yes, all the smoking, got a sore throat this week and don't like watching people pulling on a ciggie, however had to look away when watching The Game, as even more smoking going on there ( the MI5 programme.) Also set in the early sixties.

Mishap Sat 09-May-15 12:47:46

But there is some woman who fancies him - unbelievable!

Greyduster Sat 09-May-15 12:12:19

Pompa sadcupcake.

pompa Sat 09-May-15 12:11:06

Mishap I agree that John Bacchus is everything that I hope I wasn't back in the 60's He sexist, racist and just about any sort of 'ist there is, I squirm at many of his remarks and behaviour. I just hope he gets his comeuppance at some point.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 09-May-15 11:51:51

It goes on for too long. I thought it was really boring. Very hackneyed subject too. Martin Shaw is still very appealing but even that didn't keep me watching till the end.

pompa Sat 09-May-15 11:19:50

There you Go Greyduster, I do have one thing in common with him. But you are very cruel, you could have agreed with me for a moment. sad

Mishap Sat 09-May-15 11:09:37

The John Bacchus character is so unpleasant and unattractive.

I am fascinated by the amount of smoking and drinking that goes on in the office!

POGS Sat 09-May-15 11:03:56

Where did Sheen come from confused

POGS Sat 09-May-15 11:02:18

I caught up with it last night and I thought it was good.

I don't like the CID sarge character but it is a reflection of life .

Martin Sheen Shaw is a very handsome man, better than Poldark even.

Greyduster Sat 09-May-15 10:58:21

I'm sure you're very lovely, Pompa, but come on....! Interesting that George Gently is a fly fisherman! Another reason to like him!

pompa Sat 09-May-15 10:43:54

Pompa thinks to himself - would they notice if a stood in while he goes for lunch ?
