Evening all. I've just a look through the Radio Times at tonight offerings.

The only thing that I'm even slightly drawn to is a Mary Portas programme at 8pm, then something about some comedian chap doing sort of "work experience" working in hotels instead of staying in them at (I think) 10pm.

I don't have Sky or anything similar, only Freeview and there doesn't seem to be much on there either!

Any suggestions as to what might be worth looking at on BBC Iplayer or the ITV equivalents?

Thank you in advance!

Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is on Film 4 at 9pm phoenix. I seem to be the only person in the country who hasn't seen it so I'm looking forward to it.

When I'm stuck for something to watch - which is usually when DH is watching football, I catch up with episodes of Restoration Man (channel 4) or a documentary I may have missed.

Thanks merlot ! I haven't seen it either! How did I miss that in the Radio Times? confused

this could be interesting Romanians get a bad press.

Will record Marigold Hotel.

Watched the first part of Romanians are coming. I found it rather sad that they had travelled so far for really so little and were so unaware that they needed to speak English.
Very thought provoking. x

Hmm, J52 , perhaps I'll give that one a miss for tonight. Although I (obviously) haven't seen this exact programme, i recall seeing something along the same lines that was definitely not good for my blood pressure.

I thought of you when I watched last week's episode, phoenix. You are right to give it a miss. hmm

Can you get Film 4 on Freeview? confused

jo1book Tue 24-Feb-15 21:30:13

if you go into the Demand section of Freeview through Your View there is Netflix, offering a vast range of stuff. They have a month free as now. Some good films and old tv programmes.

We always have stuff recorded to watch on nights like this. Just caught up with Indian Summers.
Enjoy Marigold Hotel - I want to live there..... and am looking forward to the next instalment.

Yes pretty dire on tv tonight. I have been catching up on some radio programmes. Book of the week which is Mary Portas' autobiography Shop Girl, The thirty minute drama and the omnibus edition of The Archers. At the same time I have recovered my ironing board, finished some patchwork squares and cut out a dress pattern for my granddaughter. So what at first appeared to be a pretty grim night has turned out quite productive.

NB The Mary Portas autobiography is worth listening to.

Well I've just popped over to BBC1 having watched BEMH (excellent) just in time to see a woman making a fruit smoothie with her baby's placenta! shock

rubysong Tue 24-Feb-15 23:48:56

Yes Merlot I saw that. I notice she added a lot of fruit to it. I thought people fried it usually with bacon and mushrooms. I don't think I would fancy it.

After being critical of The Gift the other week, I've actually continued watching it and have revised my opinion of Mel and Matt who I think are more low key than Davina and Nicky, but perhaps better for it.

I think the series has improved on its first programme - although the case last week of a man who, with his friends, had terrorised a classmate for 11 years really annoyed me. He'd said he wanted to say sorry for what he'd done , but after he'd said sorry he then practically begged to be forgiven. So, in effect, it was all about how he felt and not about his victim and I thought it was a real cheek.

I thought the programme tonight was good.

Sounds like I chose then right night to go and see The Theory of Everything.

Eddie was as good as they say.

I recommend Netflix, you never have that " nothing to watch" feeling. I am watching Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff on, fantastic. Can't wait for the next instalment, also, looking forward to the next series of House of Cards with Kevin Spacely.

Lilygran Wed 25-Feb-15 07:41:07

Yes, Suzie! We recently got access to Netflix and we're watching Breaking Bad. Looking forward to Better Call Saul. Most channels seem to operate like bus companies, none for ages then three or four come along at once. You do get the feeling that the TV programme schedulers no longer know or care what's on when. Every programme ends with someone telling us to watch on catch-up. Do they even know how many people watch or listen to programmes on line? On their computers or laptops or phones?

mollie65 Wed 25-Feb-15 07:53:39

may be teaching grandma to suck eggs ana but if you periodically retune your freeview receiver you will find lots of (useful and interesting??) new channels available keep being added - such as ITVBe shock

feetlebaum Wed 25-Feb-15 08:35:31

The best thing about Feeview is that I can sometimes watch a Freeview Channel whole recording two SKY channels -- three channels in use!

That's on the rare, and becoming rarer occasion when there are three worthwhile programmes on at the same time.

hildajenniJ Wed 25-Feb-15 08:39:21

I love my new Roku streaming box. I don't have sky anymore and the free view in this area is very poor. As most of you know I go to bed at 19.30 so can't watch most of what I'd like when it is actually broadcast, and not having sky means I can't record anything. With Roku I can watch BBC iPlayer, 4OD, etc. Presently I am catching up with Death in Paradise. I am also looking forward to seeing The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel as I haven't seen it yet either.

daffydil Wed 25-Feb-15 09:28:36

I have been watching Judge John Deed on Freeview channel 20 for the last few weeks. It is excellent and stars the lovely Martin Shaw.
