The Oscars

I am thrilled that Edie Redmayne and Felicity Jones have been nominated for the Oscars with their mesmerising performances of Prof Stephen Hawking and his wife. This is a must-see film where the acting and directing are top class. Best film I have seen in years.

Also Benedict Cumberbatch who played the part of Alan Turing in the Imitation Game another excellent film. His co star Keira knightly has also been nominated, her performance was ok but nothing memorable.

I have this suspicion as Keira is so well known she will get an Oscar where Felicity Jones may not, it would be a travesty if this is the case.

For Archers fans Felicity Jones played Emma Grundy for some years. I am pleased to see she has moved on to films. I hope we will see a lot more of her in the future.

Was chatting to a friend about films the other night and she said I have to see The Theory of Everything, as she said it wasn't the sort of film she'd generally see but it was amazing. I also want to see Testament of Youth cause 'Jon Snow' from 'Game of Thrones' is in it and I can look at him all day blush.

They reckon Meryl Streep will win an Oscar for her part in LOST IN THE WOODS which we saw the other afternoon .

She was spectacular IMO.

In fact the whole thing was quite breath taking , based on Stephen Sondheims hugely successful stage musical .

I think I'm going to have to be "billy no mates" and see The Theory of Everything on my own. Definitely not DH's thing and not DD's either.

S*d it; everything I've just written has gone down the pan [bloomin' computer]. Just got back from the cinema. Everything that has been said about it is true. It's funny and life affirming and joyous and a 'must see'.

Glad you enjoyed the film Tegan. I have just watched the film review programme with Mark Kermode and he said Eddie Redmayne should win the oscar for best actor but as he isn't very well known in USA he thought Michael Keaton would win instead as he has just made a comeback in the film world, whatever that means and the US viewing public like that sort of thing.

Isn't it a bummer when your computer crashes?

It does it all the time NanKate sad. Someone on another forum said that TTOE is one of those rare films that absolutely no one has said a bad word about. The Oscars are wierd anyway; very political. I left the cinema in tears today having spent the second half of the film fighting back the tears. It wasn't because it made me feel sad; quite the opposite in fact. When I got home Shrek was on the telly and I had to turn it off because I wasn't in the mood to watch it [and I love Shrek]. I'm also putting off watching series 2 of Game of Thrones which I bought today, because I still want to stay in todays film for a while. I was very determined NOT to like it as well. Eddie was in Les Mis so American cinemagoers might know him a bit, but they might think back to Daniel Day Lewis in My Left Foot and not want to give an Oscar for something similar [I think he won an Oscar for it, but I could be wrong]. Either way, he deserves an Oscar even if he doesn't win it [as does Felicity Jones].

Yes Tegan we thought Felicity Jones was the perfect match to ER. Isn't it great to see a wonderfully, sensitively directed and acted film. DH and I both were dabbing our eyes throughout the film.

How the real Prof SH has lasted all these years when he was given just 3 years to live I don't know.

I've often wondered that but they do say it's a slower developing form of the disease. Also a lot of people with, what is almost a form of locked in body syndrome would probably lose the will to live, but he lives so much in his mind that he can probably cope with that aspect so much better. Strangely enough, for someone so famous, I've never thought to google him before and find myself seeing him in a completely different light. I don't think a film adaptation of the first book his wife wrote about their life together would have portrayed him in such a positive way, though, but, as I realised with my relationship with my ex husband, time does forgive and our pereception of someone does change at different stages of relationships. My litmus test for a good film is if I'm still thinking about it the next day; and also if everyone in the cinema doesn't leave as soon as the credits roll. I was one of the first to leave, eventually, cause I wanted to get outside and wipe the tears away.
