Eastenders?

I have watched Easties since it started in a mindless sort of way. However I was absolutely drawn in by last nights episode. I've never been left so shattered by a TV programme before. Cabin fever? Good writing? Good acting? No idea why!!

Eastenders is the only British soap that I watch, the only other ones I watch are Home and Away and Neighbours.

Um, it is not the best at the moment. Thought it might be just me though. I can go through peaks and troughs with soaps a bit.

I have eventually given up on Emmerdale though. Anyone else think it's gone a bit silly?

Soontobe, when I typed my reply, I thought we were talking about Bobby the character, not the young actor who plays him. I thought last week`s episodes were all very well done, loved them, and will watch Eastenders till either it, or I, depart this mortal coil!

It's not real you know. .....shock No visas needed.

Also, when the phone rings it's never asking about PPI?

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 24-Feb-15 14:18:50

grin

They live in London. Could they go to the Embassy? Is there a shortcut?

How will Lauren get a visa for New Zealand if she goes the next day? x

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 24-Feb-15 10:55:08

...headphones on, on a mini I-pad.....

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 24-Feb-15 10:53:59

It wasn't over the top. It was fantastic. Even watched with headphones on an I-pad mini in a hotel lounge.

Btw, if anyone is interested, there is a website called filmon.co where you can actually watch British tv abroad. Free! smile

I could never give up on it! Love the characters and the actors behind them.

I think it could well come out in the future that Bobby did it, but he will be given counselling as it was, really, an accident. I don't believe they would lock him away for it. He was just as sad as the rest of them.

I think that it will go on and on.
When soaps run out of ideas, they bring in new characters with new "secrets".

For me, I ease up on watching soaps when there are a number of characters that dont interest me.
Or a numberof storylines that dont interest me.

I agree that the EElive week has been a bit over the top. But I was expecting it to be more over the top than it was! grin

Also, I did wonder if the result of who killed Lucy Beale was going to be a let down, or unbelieveable.
But, for a soap, I thought it was quite good.

Denders is the only soap we watch- and normally only if we are here. If we miss it, we miss it. Exceptionally, due to the 'revelations' we taped last week's episodes when we were on hols and watched them yesterday as the weather was dire.

We just could not believe our eyes, another murder, a premature (hysterical) birth- x100 more all thrown together. Just too much and all we could say was ' where can they go next?' - it just can't go on. Might give up on it ourselves.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 24-Feb-15 09:50:39

should have put a wink and a grin there

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 24-Feb-15 09:50:09

that's if anyone bothers to read it

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 24-Feb-15 09:49:49

take out the 'about' there

thank you.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 24-Feb-15 09:49:03

Any children who do watch are hardly likely to be turned into evil little killers by it. The story is being handled well.

And as for criticising any of the acting, well - some people will always find a way to endeavour to sound superior about. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 24-Feb-15 09:45:04

The actor who plays Bobby is twelve. He won't be harmed by playing this role. As for other young children, they shouldn't be watching it. I cannot imagine my two being glued to any soap opera at eight o'clock in the evening. The nine year old is in bed and asleep, and the thirteen year old is on his way there.

He knows in real life numberplease. He was told last monday apparently.

numberplease Mon 23-Feb-15 22:51:37

Ah, but Bobby doesn`t actually know that he killed Lucy. He admitted to hitting her, but Jane told him that she helped Lucy to leave the house, and that she was killed later, by someone else.

Jane10 Mon 23-Feb-15 14:21:54

soontobe I gave it as an example. Did it have a long term effect on youngsters? Doesn't look like it! Should be OK with Eastenders.

soontobe Mon 23-Feb-15 11:01:35

I could be wrong, but I think that a number of kids watch EE. Often without much parental supervision.

Plus Jamie Bulger was killed more than 20 years ago.
I doubt that many children or teens for that matter know about it.

Jane10 Mon 23-Feb-15 09:41:47

Those boys in Liverpool who kidnapped and tortured Jamie Bulger didn't get away with it. Hellish situation for the family. Probably more likely to have been heard about by kids than an episode of Eastenders? It was all over the news and papers for months.

soontobe Mon 23-Feb-15 09:30:24

Weirdly, it may be adults that the programme is protecting.
Some adults are going to be up in arms if nasty things happen to Bobby.

I hadnt really thought in that way about how children will see the programme. And you could be right.

Like Jane says, we dont know how it is going to pan out.
But yes, I agree with you. Some children may well have taken away the wrong idea.

If it was real life, I dont know what would happen to Bobby.

Jane10 Mon 23-Feb-15 07:21:44

Too soon to say what is going to happen. Generally soaps are pretty moral. It may take time but it will all come out in the wash. Got to keep the storylines going!

rubylady Mon 23-Feb-15 02:39:47

Thanks soontobe It isn't helped though by the fact that the family are saying they will cover it up. It tells children that if they do something wrong that they will effectively "get away with it". Surely they should be putting out the message that there are consequences for actions taken, no matter what age?
