Just caught up with this on I Player, I believe it was screened on Tuesday. Thought it was really gripping, can't wait for the next instalment . A different role for James Nesbitt played the distraught father very well.

I`m enjoying The Missing, but would enjoy it more if I didn`t have to guess at some of what`s being said. The volume has been turned way up, but it`s not the actual volume that`s the problem, it`s sound quality, it`s very muffled a lot of the time, and it`s not just me, hubby and daughter find it the same.

Have you got sub-titles? I have those on. I've just watched the first episode of the first series of The Fall, with sub-titles, but I'm not sure I'll watch any more of it. (sh-sh-shake)

Never thought of putting sub titles on Jingl, but to be honest, they annoy me, if you read the subtitles you miss some of the action, if you watch the action you miss the subtitles. Or at least I do, maybe my mind`s not as active as some!

I know what you mean. But you get used to them after a while. I think I see all the action!

We play our television through a radio. The radio has better sound quality than the tv. Son set it up. I wouldn't know how to.

I watched this weeks on catch up last night. What is going on with the Stott character? It's compelling, especially as James Nesbitt is such a brilliant actor

GillT57 Thu 13-Nov-14 10:03:25

When I first saw Ken Stott lurking in that basement last week, my first thought was oh it is ok, Rebus will sort it out!

I'm enjoying it but it seems to be treading water until the last minute twist.

Is it one of those dramas that would be better if it was halved in production to keep the momentum. confused

papaoscar Fri 14-Nov-14 10:23:34

Still trying to disentangle the plot from the peculiar lighting, camera shots, flash-backs, mumbled dialogue and other distractions, but I'm sure that there is a chilling story in there somewhere. There is usually a synopsis of these things on t'internet somewhere but I can't find it. Anybody else got any ideas?

I didn't understand the bit where the mother was near the pool and the little boy ran towards her and she said, Oh, I've been so worried ?? If that was her son then he can't be missing ?? Perhaps I've lost the plot.

merlotgran Fri 14-Nov-14 11:24:00

It was all in her anguished imagination, boggles. Scenes like that only add to the confusion though confused

boggles Fri 14-Nov-14 11:29:34

Oh, I see, she was imagining it, thank you merlotgran. Yes it is confusing.

Iam64 Fri 14-Nov-14 17:09:58

papaoscar - I agree, so many distractions and flash backs, but I'm still watching. I watched on catch up this week and confess to replaying one scene. It didn't help though to watch it twice, still confused. It's the one with Rebus (I know it isn't really Rebus) and Nesbitt in the bar. Sinister or what!

Marelli Tue 25-Nov-14 22:06:11

And now I'm really confused...confused!

tiggypiro Tue 25-Nov-14 22:10:20

Me too - especially when I missed last week because I locked myself out.

tanith Tue 25-Nov-14 22:15:33

I think I've lost track, where did that young blonde woman appear from and is she the missing daughter ? of the 'Rebus' character and wife. confused

Ana Tue 25-Nov-14 22:15:58

Glad I didn't stick with it! I spent the last hour watching last week's episode of The Fall and won't be bothering with any more.

papaoscar Tue 25-Nov-14 22:19:09

I think I'll just read a summary later, I've just lost the will to continue trying to work it all out. All that grunting and groaning in the half-light. Shame, I was really looking forward to it.

gillybob Tue 25-Nov-14 22:25:42

I think the young blonde woman (teacher) is the same woman the detective captured (well held) in the hotel toilet many years before. She was a an addict and had her throat slit didn't she pull her sweat her neck down and show the scar? Blimey I'm struggling with all the moving backwards and forwards. Quite liking it though. confused

merlotgran Tue 25-Nov-14 22:32:59

I hope the Telegraph reviewer has got some easy to follow explanations at the ready. I thought it was confusing last week but this week was even worse.

Vincent Bourg (DH insists on calling him Victor Borge without his piano) must be fed up with being bashed senseless by Tony Hughes and I keep looking at the cast list in Radio Times to try and remember who the schoolteacher's brother is/was but I'm still none the wiser. hmm

And who's the bloke in Brussels?

numberplease Tue 25-Nov-14 23:16:36

There`s far too much of the going back and forwards, it`s every couple of minutes, that`s why it`s confusing, doesn`t give the viewer time to absorb what`s happening in one time sphere before whisking us back to the other one. And I`m still having trouble following some of the dialogue.

GrannyTwice Tue 25-Nov-14 23:18:17

Is Ian definitely dead?

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 25-Nov-14 23:33:23

this helps

Yes. I reckon he's well dead grannytwice. grin

I plan to catch up with The Missing some time today, when also catching up with ironing my clothes. Thanks for the link jingle, that will help me keep up grin
