I have just watched 'Marvellous' and I thought it was brilliant.

It's based on a true story of Neil Baldwin who is classed as having learning difficulties but the more I watched I thought he was so much smarter than me because he had no inhibitians and his life was so uncomplicated. Good on you Neil.

Toby Jones played Neil and you could just see how much love and respect he had for Neil and his face just shone when Neil himself took his cameo role in parts of the play.

If you have the opportunity to watch I hope you will, it was funny, endearing and a genuinely interesting story. The fact the 'real Neil' took part in the play was pure genious and made the whole story work.

His sweet nature and character gave him the confidence to be a clown, 'self appointed ' chaplain of Keele University, lay preacher and kit man for Stoke City Football Club. He is a wonderful, uplifting character.

5 stars from me. Toby Jones might not win the Best Actor award but I wouldn't mind betting he get's a nomination. Both the writing and the acting were 'MARVELLOUS'

Well reviewed POGS. I totally agree with you and you have been much more eloquent than I could have been.

Liz

It was such a good story wasn't it. I wanted to tell all of it but that would spoil the viewing for anybody who wanted to give it a try.

We obviously have good taste. smile

We really enjoyed it too, POGS. A really inspiring (true) story. Very funny in parts, as well as quite poignant, especially where his mother was concerned. Loved it. smile

Yes, we thought it was a lovely story and made for a perfect evening's viewing. I think it was the simplicity of everything that made it so charming.

When the interview was taking place on the football pitch and he was in the background made me laugh so much. [ the kilt incident]

This was truly an inspiring programme and I loved it. Can't add much more to Pogs perfect description of it.

We were in tears of joy and sorrow. You didn't know what to expect!

Quite the best thing I have seen all year on TV.

Toby Jones should win an award for his brilliant portrayal of Neil Baldwin.

The scenes around when his Mum died just reduced me to an outpouring of tears.

Absolutely Marvellous. smile

Fantastic drama, really well acted and produced.

NanKate Mon 29-Sept-14 17:37:14

Do you remember his Mum in the biopic (Gemma smoothing) in the 'Duchess of Duke Street' loved that too?

POGS Mon 29-Sept-14 20:02:22

Just to say I have just caught an interview with Neil tonight on BBC 1 tonight.

Neil was happy with his new found 'celebrity status' and back at Keele signing up new students for his football team. smile

I wish more GN's had watched such a good piece of drama.

NanKate Mon 29-Sept-14 20:12:04

Not smoothing I meant something. Why does my IPad sometimes insist on suggesting and inserting the wrong word ?

KatyK Mon 29-Sept-14 22:39:37

Just watched it having taped it. Fantastic - both the acting and the real life man. Gemma Jones was his mum. Loved it.

NanKate Tue 30-Sept-14 08:14:26

I've kept the video as I think it is one to watch again at sometime. I love Neil's take on life about deciding to be happy.

Thanks KatyK of course Gemma Jones.

This was repeated tonight; I missed the first half but what I saw was wonderful. I think my son has sorted out my iplayer so I'm hoping I can watch the rest.

Kiora Fri 26-Dec-14 14:33:37

I enjoyed it immensely too.
