Strictly - shall you?

Juts read the article in RT (in Smiths don't buy it) re Strictly Come Dancing and it looks dire - no Brucie and a guest list of no-one I have ever heard of except that coarse fruit and veg man and Andy Murray's sour faced mother.
I suppose I will get sucked in but I think its a record and wiz through job now - I like watching the professional dancers but can't stand the rubbish that Tess talks.
Will you be watching?

They made Alison look like a large roll of Andrex- can they not design for larger women?

PRINTMISS Mon 03-Nov-14 07:44:49

Yes, thank goodness Scott has gone, although I would not have been sorry to see the back of Alison, floating around in that awful dress. I don't know how Judy survives, but she does and as I said before good on 'er. She obviously will not win, but she is enjoying herself. Don't think the men stand a chance with all the lithe young ladies doing so well. We shall see.

Alison's dresses are horrendous and in my opinion make her look twice as large as she is.

I think that she should be next on the cards to go. I do not know where Judy is getting the votes from unless they are for Anton. She at least appears to be enjoying it a bit more now.

I still think Pixie will win, she is a natural and makes it look so easy because she is so good.

Scott had to go and Judy should be next.

Thank goodness Scott has gone, Alison and Judy should, by rights, be next in line, then the real competition begins. Had a disagreement with hubby, he says Jake Wood is the best dancer there, I say he`s ONE of the best. I personally like Frankie Bridge and Caroline Flack.

I'm glad Scott has gone.

Why is Len such a grumpy old git where Bruno is concerned? I know Bruno is silly but he's harmless. Len can be OTT as well and loves the sound of his own voice.

I'm glad Simon was saved and I did think that his dance was much better than the one Thom did (but that could more about the choreography than Thom's ability).

As with others, I think there are others who should have gone first last night.

On MasterChef if they think both contestants should go through, they do it and don't send anyone home, another time if they are both awful, they will send both home. Why can't the strictly judges have the balls to make the right decision for once.

Its not the Olympics! It doesn't have to be fair. Its an entertainment show and its the randomness of the voting that keep us all intrigued and involved. The BBC know how to work the great British public!

Anya Mon 27-Oct-14 09:28:29

Print it's the same system which works in most committees too. The Chair has a casting vote, in effect s/he has two votes if the situation requires it. It is assumed that they will vote the same way both times.

It would have been interesting if Len had rebelled and cast his first vote for Thom - making it a draw and then refused to use his casting vote!!

grannyactivist Mon 27-Oct-14 08:45:49

I must admit I catch it on iPlayer and end up watching all the couples dance, but usually skip all the comments and burbling, then on the results show I go straight to the dance off. I am so frustrated that poor dancers remain when some of the more talented ones are voted off, but as I don't vote myself I don't feel I'm really in a position to complain.

PRINTMISS Mon 27-Oct-14 08:35:23

I really did not understand the 'final' decision being down to Len, and I have always thought that the 'casting vote' happened when there were equal votes at the final judging, so it is impossible to have four judges and a casting vote - well that's what I think. Scott and Judy should have been in the dance off (possibly Alison as well!). Scott is irritatingly silly, but I am enjoying seeing Judy's face light up when she gets through and she is a feisty women. I don't think she is attempting to dance, and Anton is just letting her enjoy herself good on her. It will even out at the end, and I think it will be between the girls.

Tonight was a travesty!
And how can the judges decision be called a draw, when it was 2 to 1? To avoid a draw they should have 5 judges, not 4.

Deedaa Sun 26-Oct-14 20:24:11

The trouble is that when you have the viewers voting you are stuck with what they vote for. You've only got to hear the audience reaction to the judges' comments to see they've got a completely different agenda. The best thing about The Great British Bake Off and The Great British Sewing Bee is that the whole thing is down to the Judges and they don't pick people just because "they were so funny in that sit com"

pompa Sun 26-Oct-14 20:15:19

The only person to admit how unjust the system is was John Sergeant, he had the honesty to quit when there were better dancers going home.

merlotgran Sun 26-Oct-14 20:11:05

I don't get this casting vote thing with Len. There are four judges so it was two against two tonight. They might as well just ask Len in the first place.

Gagagran Sun 26-Oct-14 20:08:03

I think it should have been Alison and Scott in the dance off - both of them are worse than Judy. I am enjoying seeing her come out of herself and I think she has improved. Anton is good at making the less capable dancers he always gets look watchable.

Ana Sun 26-Oct-14 20:06:20

Yes, it must be the Scottish vote! grin

Seriously, though, this sort of thing seems to happen every year but it does even out towards the end when only the really good ones are left.

annodomini Sun 26-Oct-14 20:03:13

At this rate the final will feature Judy and Scott! hmm

pompa Sun 26-Oct-14 20:02:15

Surely someone can stand up and say that the system is totally unjust. They might just as well draw straws and save the wages of the judges.

Bloody furious angry

merlotgran Sun 26-Oct-14 20:01:56

I doubt the voting really has much to do with it in the early stages. They like to keep a few duffers in for entertainment value until it gets to be a proper dance competition.

TerriBull Sun 26-Oct-14 19:58:26

I'm glad Simon has been saved, but Thom shouldn't be going tonight. Simply unfair, Judy should have gone a couple of weeks ago and Scott should have definitely been in the dance off tonight.

suzied Sun 26-Oct-14 19:57:25

And why bother with Culture Club? They were dire.

suzied Sun 26-Oct-14 19:54:28

It seems to be that only men have been voted off so far... Seems strange as I guess it's mainly women who vote.

merlotgran Sun 26-Oct-14 19:53:12

Ridiculous angry

Judy and Scott should have been in the dance off.
