This is on BBC2 Thursdays at 9pm. The third episode was yesterday evening and I had half decided to give up when I suddenly started to understand some of the plot - only some!!! Anyone else watching this- its is painfully slow but somehow intriguing and as there is so little else on I'll carry on for a bit.

Loving some of her clothes! Silk blouses and well cut trousers - just my style except I would need to lose about 3 stone to look similar!

I find this series strangely gripping. I think it's the acting. I missed last weeks episode (it's no longer on catch up) but have just watched this week's and it doesn't seem to make any difference!

I'm looking forward to the conclusion but the precis in thtelegraph says it doesn't really conclude. I suspect Nessa isn't dead though.

I'm enjoying it too, although I had reservations at first. I think it was helpful that I came late to it and so watched it more or less back to back on the Iplayer, otherwise I think I would have got very muddled up from week to week! I think in terms of style it has been heavily influenced by Homeland - not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

I love this programme, I quite enjoy all the odd acting, so different from some of the really awful shows which have been put on recently (including the repeats. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out. How do people think up these plots?

I lost the will to live last night while watching epsisode 4 - DH had fallen asleep so he was obviously enjoying it!

Yes, I have mrsjones, it's the only way I can follow it all.hmm

mrsjoneswasright Sat 16-Aug-14 22:17:27

Gosh, Episode 7 was so tense I had to hold my breath in parts. I can't wait for Thursday to get here for the last episode. I really hope everything is explained and there are no loose ends. Stephen Rea has been fantastic throughout! Has anyone been following the recaps in The Guardian? They've really given me lots to think about.

I gave up after watching 30 minutes of the first episode. It would appear that I did not miss much although some appeared to enjoy it.

Only one more episode to go! Great series but do not understand why Maggie G has to laugh at all the wrong times! Bizarre or what? That and all the compulsive eye wiping and grinning.Other characters are very good.

Agus Sat 16-Aug-14 13:28:51

Agree Stephen Rea is the star of the show. Agree Nessa is the boys Mother.
But! I have given up. I am finding it too slow and some of the actors are not plausible characters and wooden.

Lona Sat 16-Aug-14 13:11:06

I think he's fantastic too! They should do a spin off with him and the women spies.
Why wasn't he in Spooks? I think he's my new crush wink

Just watched 14th August and be prepared for big shocks- if you are recording stick with it. Plot is very complicated, but I think M G's character develops steadily and the reason for her "wooden" behaviour becomes more apparent as you realise how much emotion she is repressing. But Stephen Rea is the star for me-great actor, much under used and underrated.

I'm glad I stuck with it and it's growing on me. smile

POGS Wed 06-Aug-14 19:10:46

I agree with all the posts but I have just watched episode 4 and I thought it 'picked up' and I was glad I had 'stuck with it'.

It is quite an interesting story but I do find the acting a bit wooden in parts.

I was just going to ask if this series was worth watching and I have got the answer. Where's that delete button ?

Lona Sat 19-Jul-14 20:10:00

I've read a few reviews today and it seems that I'm not the only one to think that Nessa may be the boy's mother hmm

ayse Sat 19-Jul-14 16:36:59

I'm finding it rather confusing at the moment but will continue as I suspect it will gradually link together. I hope to have an 'Aah' moment at sometime in the future. I agree it's a bit slow but every time I think I'm going to give up something interesting happens. smile

soop Sat 19-Jul-14 16:26:58

The MI6 guy is a brilliant actor. If he interrogated me, I would melt...wink

Eloethan Fri 18-Jul-14 22:49:07

I'm enjoying it but not quite sure why as I'm finding it vary confusing. Maggie Gyllenhall has had great reviews but I feel that she concentrates so hard on getting the accent right that her performance is a bit wooden.

Humbertbear Fri 18-Jul-14 20:19:10

It's slow and confusing but I love Maggie Gyllenhal and I am intrigued as to what is going on and how it will all be resolved. It's great when I am babysitting or just want to get some knitting done.

GrannyTwice Fri 18-Jul-14 18:21:23

I'm stil going with it for the moment - episode 3 waiting for me. Agree about Maggue G though - somehow just not quite 'right'

henetha Fri 18-Jul-14 17:59:14

I found it too confusing to bother to follow it through....

Lona Fri 18-Jul-14 11:30:49

Yes, he is! In fact he's one of the best things about it imo.

suebailey1 Fri 18-Jul-14 11:17:38

NO I think its just that at the time their kidnap was not reported a kept a secret also that they were probably 'turned' ( a reprise of the Homeland' story) and are now sleepers waiting to strike. Love the MI6 man - how beautifully menacing he is. I mean acting the part before anyone gets excited about me saying menacing men are beautiful!!!
