'Strictly' - phew wink

Lona Sun 06-Apr-14 22:05:33

Hardeep is too busy trying to be the centre of attention for me. I do like his turbans though.

JessM Sun 06-Apr-14 22:01:16

I think Hardeep Singh Kohli would be a good choice. Lovely manner. And he does a good line in pink turbans. I am serious.

With regard to a successor to Brucie the BBC in their wisdom are bound to choose someone the majority of viewers don't want and then there will be all this guff from them about how they are thrilled with their choice .

I wish we Gransnetters could run the old Beeb for a while and show them we are discerning and can run the whole shebang.

I bought his book, he speaks about his daily routine.

He said that he does the same thing every day, he always has porridge with fruit for breakfast and has the same exercise regime every day.

He also said that his present Mother In Law introduced him to his routine that he has kept for the past 20 odd years.

His family were in The Salvation Army.

I think he is great , very jolly happy type of a person.

Deedaa and her DH could give us the full translation the next day on G'net.

Actually, I vote for Lucca Z [can't spell his name] the actor who plays Insp. Montalbano. It wouldn't matter what he said as 1] it would be in Italian anyway and 2] we could just look at him anyway. He would look very good in black tie etc.he could smile, chat and gesture, and that would fill the time nicely until the dancers hit the dance floor.smile

Deedaa Sat 05-Apr-14 20:41:38

In the majority of programmes I would far rather see them introduced by someone who was an expert on the subject - or at least had a genuine interest in it. We seem to have so many programmes spoiled by "celebrities" who haven't got a clue what's happening.
I'd be in two minds about Anton because if he was presenting we wouldn't see him dancing. feetle I think that, as a man, you are missing the big selling point for some of us; which is seeing women being swept round the floor by brilliant dancers - which is pretty damned sexy if you've ever had it happen to you! (A long time since it happened to me I'm afraid grin )

rosesarered Sat 05-Apr-14 20:19:16

I could take watching Anton, he is alright and can 'work an audience' as stated, but please not Zoe Ball!!!! The big question is, does the main presenter have to know anything about ballroom dancing? If not, it could be almost anyone.

annodomini Sat 05-Apr-14 20:12:19

Having seen Anton's stage show I can vouch for his ability to work an audience. He has an amiable stage presence and isn't quite as corny as Brucie. Is anyone?

numberplease Sat 05-Apr-14 19:28:24

Much as I love Anton, I wouldn`t want him in the job, I`m too keen on watching him dance.

merlotgran Sat 05-Apr-14 17:35:59

I like that, feetle, Liberty Bell will always be doomed.

feetlebaum Sat 05-Apr-14 17:27:30

The last of the old Come Dancing programmes I worked on was presented by Terry Wogan, who told me 'These dancers - they all hate me...' Then he added 'Ah, f--- 'em!' and I could see where he was coming from...

Incidentally that programme was all 'Old Time' - and the band had the greatest difficult with the Sousa march, Liberty Bell - mostly because it was the Monty Python signature tune and we kept getting the giggles.

JessM Sat 05-Apr-14 17:01:59

When was the last time you criticised a man for simpering Charleygirl ?

NanKate Sat 05-Apr-14 16:56:34

Yes Anton would suit me. I like his sense of humour.

annodomini Sat 05-Apr-14 16:17:37

Entertainers like John Barrowman and Michael Ball probably have too many commitments to take on three months of Saturday evening. I have a feeling that we might not get an A-lister!

Charleygirl Sat 05-Apr-14 15:57:07

My choice would be either Anton du Beke, John Barrowman or Michael Ball. I am not a fan of Claudia Winkleman and her simpering ways. I would like to take hedge trimmers to her fringe.

henetha Sat 05-Apr-14 15:03:29

Strictly's lovely! One of the better programmes these days. Long may it live. As for Brucie, well it's time he retired as he was getting a bit bumbly.
But I've got to stick up for him as he has had a brilliant career and is a very talented man.
I hope it's not Claudia Winkelman..... she is slightly irritating!
How about Anton Du Beke?

gillybob Sat 05-Apr-14 09:12:27

I don't think Strictly is a "ghastly program* feetle .although I appreciate it is a matter of opinion. I watch very little television as I can't be bothered with most of the rubbish on offer however I do enjoy Strictly. I love the beautiful costumes, the music and the dancing and it is one of the few programs I can enjoy watching with my grandchildren too. Sir Bruce did spoil it for me and many others so I am glad he has gone.

feetlebaum Sat 05-Apr-14 08:59:02

I'm amazed to see that that ghastly programme has been on for ten years!

Oh well, at least it employs musicians...

NanKate Sat 05-Apr-14 08:32:42

If we had Nicholas Parsons at 90+ and Mary Berry at late 70s, they would both give us a good laugh.

Nonu Sat 05-Apr-14 08:17:18

Gilly , you have taken the words from my mouth !!
wink

gillybob Sat 05-Apr-14 07:47:13

Can you imagine a 80 something year old woman presenting alongside a 30 year old man? Not bloody likely. It's the BBC the most male chauvinistic, ageist institution there is with the exception of politics.

laidback Sat 05-Apr-14 06:47:06

What about Mel and Sue from Gbbo?

JessM Sat 05-Apr-14 06:46:58

Maybe a season in which there is a series of guest hosts, as a kind of interview?
One of the sports presenters maybe - Sonia? Sue Barker? Colin Jackson?
But not blooming Gary (I have made a million out of cashing in on my sports prowess to promote junk food how much money does a man need) Linnaeker.

BBC could survey to find out who went down well with the audience. Maybe some of the past winners could audition?

whatsgoingon Sat 05-Apr-14 05:13:42

Zoe Ball would be ideal.
