Anyone watching? Am loving the Nigerian competitor's outfits. Thought she was easily the best last night.,

I am really looking forward to the new series. I was disappointed to hear that there was a new judge, but relieved that Patrick is still in it!

Thanks for letting us know, Chelsea baby, I love the Sewing Bee but had completely missed that it was starting again today!

chelseababy Fri 06-May-16 15:44:04

It's starts on 16 May, 9pm BBC2. Much anticipation in this house!

chelseababy Mon 25-Apr-16 10:42:50

Can't find it on tv planner for 5 May but I did read elsewhere it was starting in May, no specific date. Looking forward to it.

Oh I do dislike the relatively new term 'sewist'. But I see the problem with established words - needlewoman and seamstress are sexist (needleperson? seamperson? hmm). Then there's dressmaker, but that excludes other forms of sewing, so that's out as well. Sewer? Fine if only used verbally, but once written there is an obvious confusion of meaning!
So I think we're stuck with sewist - but you won't catch me saying it!

Anticipation is well and truly in the air as we not-so-patiently await the arrival of The Great British Sewing Bee 2016 on the BBC on 5th May. Will there be sobs over snapped needles, hysterics about hemlines, blow-ups over buttonholes? And, most importantly of all, will Patrick still have a moustache?

One thing we do know about GBSB series 4 is that May Martin will sadly not be joining Patrick in judging the sewists’ efforts this year – instead, costume designer and co-founder of fashion label Swanky Modes, Esme Young, will be casting her expert eye over their finished garments. May, we’ll miss you!

Does anyone know when it starts again I am missing it

Deedaa Wed 30-Mar-16 21:42:13

Mmmm I do like Patrick grin

I recently saw some personality talking about the wonderful designer who was making dresses for her and I'm sure it was Chinelo.

chelseababy Tue 29-Mar-16 17:09:53

I can't get on with the gransnet search facility, it told me there were no threads with "sewing" in the title so I googled it.....

Anyway the new series starts soon but no May Martin! Patrick and Claudia will be back though.

Deedaa Thu 13-Mar-14 20:57:40

I thought that Chinelo's dress was lovely and suited the model very well.

I loved the welsh lady's prom dress. (David's was a disaster)

Deedaa Wed 12-Mar-14 22:34:00

I told DD that I had finally realised that the reason I enjoy the Sewing Bee is that no one ever says "Wow you guys! This is awesome!" (Actually Claudia might be thinking it sometimes!) Also, no one is "doing it for their Nan" they are just enjoying sewing and appreciating each other's efforts.

I really enjoy watching people doing things I'm not much good at myself. So admire these contestants who put their skills to the test.

Brendawymms Wed 12-Mar-14 17:51:55

Where can you buy the patterns ?

felice Wed 12-Mar-14 16:49:15

I thought I would hate this and am now addicted !!!!!

Ana Wed 12-Mar-14 12:29:56

I was glad David was saved, too - his dungarees were a work of art! And he's so helpful to the others.

mollie Wed 12-Mar-14 12:19:05

Just caught up with the latest episode and I'm soooooo glad that David is still in the competition. He's a lovely chap and is doing some good sewing. I can't quite believe the judges thought there were only two to consider booting off - I'd have thought of a couple of others myself.

penguinpaperback Thu 06-Mar-14 21:58:25

Ah thank you mollie.
I would not be able to thread a needle under the stress.

mollie Thu 06-Mar-14 20:57:06

They said he didn't feel well and decided to leave but as you say, the same happened in the first series. Probably stress and pressure...

penguinpaperback Thu 06-Mar-14 20:39:20

Just remembered I didn't get to see all of the first episode and catching the last minutes someone, one of the chaps, had already chosen to leave? Does anyone know why?
I'm sure the same happened in the first series.

Re. making clothes without patterns. I have a friend who was born in Bulgaria 60 years ago under the communist system. There was no such thing as a pattern. Her and her sister would go into a shop that sold clothes from the west, but these were only for communist party leaders.
They would try clothes on and take every measurement and then get material on the black market and make them.
She was so good that she gave up her job as a teacher and made glamourous clothes for ' women of the night'
In one month she could make the same money that she did working for one year as a teacher.

Ana Thu 06-Mar-14 15:58:55

Yes, she's a natural. I like Lynda too.

penguinpaperback Thu 06-Mar-14 14:23:43

I'm a fan of Chinelo too. Enjoying this series even more than the first.

mollie Thu 06-Mar-14 11:22:22

Bez I think I heard her say her aunt taught her and that she's only been sewing for a year! I live in hope...
