more like 'up the creek, and without a paddle!' I had looked forward to the return of Jonathan, but oh dear! it was not the same tv show. No Adam Klaus [his former boss] and suddenly he is married? To somebody [that I] haven't seen on a Creek programme. He looks old and tired, and so did the plot and the writing. No sparkle or real repartee. The viewer knew how the actress was stabbed [and it had been covered up, literally] from the outset.Very poor sad

Actually, does anybody know this, a friend told me it is actually 'umble pie', umble being a kind of offal?

Yes, I think you are right petallus that is ringing a bell.

Not sure about that petallus but I know the old name for the entrails and other nasty bits was called shambles.

which is exactly right for describing the latest offering from Jonathan Creek!

Umbles were innards. A shambles was an area where animals were slaughtered and butchered - where blood guts and dung collected.

Areas called The Shambles in a couple of towns I know, I ever knew that's what happened there

rosequartz Wed 05-Mar-14 22:11:00

Never knew I mean

In medieval times the offal ( or umbles) of the deer slaughtered in a hunt would be given to the servants who would eat them in an umble pie. Obviously all the good stuff went to the Lord of the Manor and his friends.

....and the servants would sit below the salt!
