Anyone remember Poldark? Apparently the BBC are doing a re-make with Aidan Turner playing Ross Poldark. I loved it first time around. We shall see.........

So I'm totally linked to the series [even if I was probably living in Manchester when it was first shown]. I know lots of places were called Poldark this and that when we used to go back to Cornwall for holidays.

I just remember Biggins being a vicar, I can't recall what he got up to! Tegan I read an interview with Christopher Biggins (about Poldark) where he said the outside scenes were filmed in Cornwall and the inside ones at Pebble Mill in Birmingham.

Filmed in Brum? When would that have been? Must have been after I'd left Brum and then Cornwall.

More than a naughty vicar Katy! Didn't he kill his first wife with his over enthusiastic sexual activities, or have I made that up? I seem to remember he had a foot fetish which he exercised with his sister in law confused

It's no good I'm just going to have to buy the whole of the original series on DVD. I need Ross Poldark back in my life [swoon]

Pebble Mill I wonder why they closed those studios and opened the ones in Manchester. Maybe there is no connection.

KatyK Mon 03-Mar-14 19:08:35

here in Brum not her in Brum !

KatyK Mon 03-Mar-14 19:08:13

Yes Nan Kate, Biggins played a naughty vicar I believe. The indoor scenes were filmed her in Brum at the old Pebble Mill I think.

NanKate Mon 03-Mar-14 17:29:31

I will definitely video the whole series.

Now am I right that Christopher Biggins played the part of the lecherous vicar, or have I got the wrong show ?

Thanks KatyK. Next year seems like a long way off, now I've had my appetite whetted by this discussion! Patience is a virtue ladies!

Poldark was being filmed in Cornwall sometime this year I believe. Be interesting to see new faces.

That would probably work a lot better, Diva - far more convincing than someone we've seen many times before in other productions.

Divawithattitude Sun 02-Mar-14 23:09:43

They were advertising down here for a young Cornish actress to play Demelza, an unknown!!

KatyK Sun 02-Mar-14 17:33:53

Carole - according to the papers, it will be a six parter, probably to be shown next year.

merlotgran Sun 02-Mar-14 17:31:10

I compromised and called her after a famous Daphne du Maurier character instead. grin

merlotgran Sun 02-Mar-14 17:29:00

DD1 has a beautiful Cornish name. I love the look of horror on DD2's face when I tell her she was nearly called Demelza. shock

I still think it's a lovely name.

I have just purchased a used box set of the original, on line. I think I would prefer to re-watch it instead of being disappointed with the new version.

Valbeasixties Sun 02-Mar-14 16:34:15

Probably my favourite period drama ever! I yearned to be Demelza as I completely fell in love with Ross. I think I might find it hard to accept a new version.

Tegan Sat 01-Mar-14 15:29:26

I thought he was gay [I sort of wanted him to be cause then he would have been all mine].

kittylester Sat 01-Mar-14 13:32:49

He was bound to be married Tegan - all that sexual chemistry between him and Demelza!!

Tegan Sat 01-Mar-14 11:53:18

Married and living in France [I googled him as well blush]. Surprised about the married bit, though.

kittylester Sat 01-Mar-14 11:19:28

I've just Googled Robin Ellis - he seems to have aged quite well blush

Maggiemaybe Sat 01-Mar-14 10:23:20

I think it will work for those of us who didn't see the original, though. Personally, I can't wait!

Anniebach Sat 01-Mar-14 09:39:20

Do remakes work? I cannot recall one that has. Poldark was perfect, to try to equal the original would be like remaking and equal Casablanca

Ana Fri 28-Feb-14 22:50:42

Oh yes, he was, wasn't he? Goodness, that was a long time ago...how time flies (oh dear, I'm sounding like my granny now!)

Maggiemaybe Fri 28-Feb-14 22:48:26

Well I'm looking forward to the remake as I was living abroad when the original was first screened and have never seen it. I loved the books, especially the Ross Poldark character, and must have kept his name stored away ready for when my DS arrived years later. Oddly enough my DGS1 is called Robin, so I'm racking up the tenuous Poldark connections!

Ralph Bates was very funny in Dear John.
