Anyone remember Poldark? Apparently the BBC are doing a re-make with Aidan Turner playing Ross Poldark. I loved it first time around. We shall see.........

Can I just put in a word for Ralph Bates who was so beautifully unpleasant as George Warleggan, but so nice if you met him. It was so sad tht he died so young.

They'll never be able to recreate the chemistry between Angharad Rees and Robin Ellis.

We'll this has really got me excited - I didn't know it was being remade. when is it starting?

Tegan Fri 28-Feb-14 18:36:49

I wonder if Fishermens Friends will have walk on parts?

Atqui Fri 28-Feb-14 17:15:10

Atqui Fri 28-Feb-14 17:14:46

I couldn't watch a remake ..tisnt right! tisnt property tisnt natural!!!!!

KatyK Fri 28-Feb-14 14:58:25

I agree re the original actors, it's never the same.

glammanana Fri 28-Feb-14 14:55:57

shysal I could watch Colin Firth emerging out of that lake all day long.blush

shysal Fri 28-Feb-14 14:41:23

I am also particular about Pride and Prejudice. Darcy can only be played by Colin Firth! [swoon emoticon]

Tegan Fri 28-Feb-14 14:24:18

..and film it in Super 8 or black and white....

Tegan Fri 28-Feb-14 14:23:40

They need to have complete newcomers in the roles so they can stamp their personality on them.

kittylester Fri 28-Feb-14 14:18:35

I loved the Poldark novels and Robin Ellis looked exactly like the Ross I pictured, as did Angharad Rees look like Demelza. In fact it was perfect - maybe I won't watch it this time round sad

shysal Fri 28-Feb-14 14:13:20

I'm with you nightowl, can't bear to think of anyone else in the roles. I loved the TV series and the books. Having said this, I probably won't be able to resist tuning in!

nonnasusie Fri 28-Feb-14 13:27:50

I am just re-reading all the Poldark novels at the moment. I have all eight in paperback and they all have photos of the original cast on the covers. I remember watching the series when DD was a baby. I know what you mean Katy, I felt like that with Elizabeth too!! I hope the new series comes out on DVD as we haven't got BBC here!!

Tegan Fri 28-Feb-14 11:56:55

Just goes to show how important casting is. Or maybe, when a series has been so perfect it's impossible to imagine someone else in those roles. Think I know who'll have the job of locations manager for the new series, though....

Ana Fri 28-Feb-14 11:22:23

I agree - Gina McKee was so wrong in that part! I wasn't going to bother with the new Poldark, but I'll watch it now...

nightowl Fri 28-Feb-14 11:19:52

No no no. It's just wrong. There can only ever be one Ross Poldark and one Demelza. I don't think I can bear to watch it.

A bit like the remake of the Forsyte Saga which just didn't work at all (for me). Damian Lewis as Soames and Gina McKee as Irene. All wrong sad

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 28-Feb-14 11:02:01

I think this one could be even sexier better.

Granny23 Fri 28-Feb-14 10:57:17

Oh Yes, indeed Jingle I can see HIM as Ross. Poldark was an all time favourite of mine and Ross my dream lover (with me as Demelza of course) grin

Ana Fri 28-Feb-14 10:56:29

Oh I loved Aiden Turner in Being Human! He's gorgeous...blush
I hope they don't choose someone too modern-looking for Demelza's role.

Mishap Fri 28-Feb-14 10:52:33

Oh yes I remember this series - and a rash of little girls called Demelza!

KatyK Fri 28-Feb-14 10:52:04

I got so into it at the time and can still remember wanting to slap Elizabeth (yes I know - it wasn't real). blush

Tegan Fri 28-Feb-14 10:44:33

Blimey; they look younger all the time!

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 28-Feb-14 10:39:42

Oh yes Swoon!

Tegan Fri 28-Feb-14 10:38:16

I used to live in that part of Cornwall so it will be lovely to see the area again. But I don't think they will better the original series, especially if they're planning to do a 'White Queen'/'Tudors' 'aim at the American Market version sad.But it will be nice for a whole new generation to fall in love with it all over again. There will never be another Ross and Demelza for me, though. I was surprised to find years later that Elizabeth was actually played by an American actress.
