having looked forward to the new series [a bit of light relief] found myself rather bored after 15 mins. It does seem like the same subjects gone over again and again.glad that the thin ginger haired manager has got his comeuppance now that his wife has had lots of children [LOTS]Ha-ha serve him right.Maybe the series will pick up and be more interesting next week.Am seriously missing Downton!

Sorry blush I'll get me coat!

rosesarered Tue 25-Mar-14 11:05:25

My answer was a joke phoenix!

Anne58 Tue 25-Mar-14 10:58:58

"And some fell on stony ground"

I don't think anyone went up chimneys in 1915. Sweeps used long brushes by then. Give the woman a break!

nigglynellie Tue 25-Mar-14 10:35:06

Surely that's a bit harsh.

Anne58 Mon 24-Mar-14 18:53:51

Ana ! grin

Ana Mon 24-Mar-14 18:35:56

Serves her right for going up those chimneys...hmm

nigglynellie Mon 24-Mar-14 18:30:53

I wonder why Rose is dying in 1915 as in real life she died in 1918, after contracting congestion of the lungs following Spanish Flue. Seems a bit odd to make it different, but maybe it makes a better more poignant story. All the other charaters seemed to end the series quite satisfactorily!

rosesarered Mon 24-Mar-14 18:20:40

In real life, Victor would never have let her go of course! Also in real life, Rose would have told Harry about her cancer the next day [or TB or whatever it was.]Not good for viewing though , real life is it? I think the waiting staff in the dining room were probably holding boxes of paper hankies phoenix but it could have been mops and buckets ! lol. What am I thankful for? That it's come to an end. I wish Downton would come back soon. Am enjoying Blandings though, last week's episode was so funny [where Beech the butler kept falling asleep.]

ninathenana Mon 24-Mar-14 15:28:04

grin grin phoenix

Anne58 Mon 24-Mar-14 12:35:51

Well I doubt if it's TB caught by snogging badgers, nina

ninathenana Mon 24-Mar-14 12:33:25

I felt sad for Victor, he must supposedly love her very much to 'let her go' Glad she finally got the right man though.
Are we all assuming that Rose has 'the big C' they didn't actually say did they??? just that she's dying.

Ana Mon 24-Mar-14 12:21:50

Yes, but then he might have gone overboard with the teeth business and put us all off watching ever again...

Anne58 Mon 24-Mar-14 12:18:36

Possibly Ana but they could also have gone down the route of her not telling him and then looking all sort of enigmatic, with just a tinge of wistfulness as they all said their nauseating touching sentiments about what they were thankful for.

(Were the two members of staff standing at the edge of the room holding a mop and bucket behind their backs?)

Ana Mon 24-Mar-14 12:13:37

She had to tell him before the dinner so they could have a poignant finale!

Anne58 Mon 24-Mar-14 11:58:10

I agree re telling him after the Thanksgiving dinner roses

I probably will watch the next series, but it depends on what is on other channels at the time.

Ana Mon 24-Mar-14 11:46:39

Harry didn't seem too distraught when Rose told him, did he? hmm

rosesarered Mon 24-Mar-14 11:29:52

Disaster! Agnes Towler has ditched the long suffering Victor in exchanged for Henri. As he is going off to fight for the French, she can now keep her job at Selfridges.Actually, she didn't really ditch Victor, but her brother George, in a rare moment of seriousness, told Victor that she was very loyal [which gave poor Victor the clue that there was no passion involved, and he did the gentlemanly thing and let her go.]Tears all round. The Selfridge family had a last Thanksgiving meal together, though personally I would have told my husband the following day and not just before the meal! Don't think I shall be watching the next series.

I am still watching Mr Selfridge [but mainly from a sense of loyalty]. feel it's lost it's razzamatazz somewhere along the way.The costumes are nice to look at, but tired of lots of the charcters now.Especially the lah-di-dah ginger haired shop assistant with her squeaky voice, Mr Grove [another ginger haired irritant] the characters seem to be more caricatures now, instead of becoming more solid as people. Rose Selfridge [the saint] Lord Loxley [the nasty bully] Lady Mae [reformed sinner] Delphine [the temptress] Henri [tortured noble soul] and so on. Why does Miss Tyler gulp so much when she speaks?Has the actress decided that this helps the London accent? Why do we never see the famous window displays anymore, are Henri and Miss tyler too busy gulping and being noble to do any work? Only Victor seems to be a good solid character, and I hope he sees off the brooding Frenchman before too long.

rosesarered Tue 18-Feb-14 20:24:48

What is Henri up to hmmn? Bet it's something incredibly noble and heart warming.

Lona Sun 16-Feb-14 19:08:17

Superdrug?

Ana Sun 16-Feb-14 17:56:33

Boots don't sell boots, either!

Anne58 Sun 16-Feb-14 17:31:49
