Did anyone else watch Psycopath Night on Channel 4 last night. I think it may be repeated tonight.

Anyway, for those who are interested, the following test will show where you sit in the psychopathy spectrum!

psychopath.channel4.com/quizzes.html

Flowerofthewest Mon 16-Dec-13 22:52:02

Did it again and was a 30% although the 9% mark was definitely me

newist Mon 16-Dec-13 22:51:49

If I told you, you would not visit in the summer tchgrin

Flowerofthewest Mon 16-Dec-13 22:48:51

Oh dear, what was your score Newist? I was 9% my DDH was 36% and my friend was 56%.

newist Mon 16-Dec-13 21:46:18

Should of been "theirs' blush

newist Mon 16-Dec-13 21:45:00

I still seem to have the highest score of every one who has chosen to share there's Oh dear!!!

petallus Mon 16-Dec-13 21:28:29

I too scored 3 percent and it's true I am on the anxious side.

Damn that under-performing amygdala!

JessM Mon 16-Dec-13 19:46:46

gillybob - a victim maybe. But I don't mean you are. Take with the proverbial pinch of salt. Anything that is so utterly transparent that I can whip through and choose to score 100% psychopath is evidently nonsense. Talking about personality traits such as competitiveness as if they are somehow on a spectrum of psychopathy is rubbish.

whenim64 Mon 16-Dec-13 13:52:07

gillybob the opposite end of the spectrum is a highly anxious individual. I heard Robert Hare describe it in one of his courses as someone having an under-performing amygdala.

petra Mon 16-Dec-13 13:37:12

This is a subject that has always fascinated me. So when I looked at the test I knew exactly where it was going. What was interesting, was that as we were watching it my OH and I both realised that he was very high on the spectrum. I had often put some of his traits down to what I thought was ( slightly) aspergers. But now I see it differently.

gillybob Mon 16-Dec-13 13:32:28

I scored 3%. Whats the opposite of a phsychopath?

I did tell me I was empathetic and that I should watch out as I could be easily taken in........ just about sums me up I think.

petallus Mon 16-Dec-13 10:14:40

Well, I suppose there is a difference between diagnosed as a psychopath and being told you have some psychopathic traits hmm

However, I feel making this test available to everyone who has access to the internet is irresponsible given current public ideas about what a psychopath is.

Anyway, the test is rubbish.

nightowl Mon 16-Dec-13 09:02:30

Sigh. The programme and notes accompanying the test make it very clear that of course this is not a diagnostic tool, but a very simple test to see whether you have some psychopathic traits. And psychopathic traits are very useful in some jobs and in some situations, as Aka says. Do we really have to analyse every thread topic?

petallus Mon 16-Dec-13 08:41:09

I was dissatisfied with a score of 3 percent so did the test again, this time softening the disagrees, just as valid, and came up with 44.

Hurrah! I'm not a wuss after all and can hold my own against all those psychopaths out there. grin

whenim64 Mon 16-Dec-13 08:28:36

I don't understand why Kevin Dutton has put his name to this test - it's nothing remotely like the PCL-R that is used globally, and which Kevin is licensed to use to assess psychopathy. This test would screen most psychopaths as over 90%, then you would need to use the PCL-R to identify the cluster of psychopathy traits that aren't even mentioned on this test. This one is a test just for fun.

JessM Mon 16-Dec-13 08:10:49

Well if you construct a questionnaire and whatever the score there is a slightly flattering description then everyone who does it will feel pleased with themselves won't they. This is trivialisation of psychiatry, yet again in the attempt to lure in viewers.
The questions are quite transparent and if you tick all the obvious choices, including snake (and get 10%) this is what it says about you:

You can play hardball with the best of them! You know what you want and are not afraid to go for it – even if it means bending the rules occasionally and putting a few noses out of joint on the way. Nothing fazes you. You are decisive, self-confident and pretty much up for anything. You are a ‘means-to-an-end’ person. For you, it’s not necessarily a matter of right or wrong, but of what gets the job done. ‘Bring it on’ is your mantra, but to help those around you keep their heads, you should learn some tricks to help you temper your self-satisfying tendencies...

But you wouldn't want to upset a psychopath when they could easily find out where you work, would you? hmm
A more appropriate summing up might be "You are a nasty bastard aren't you. Been locked up yet?"

LizG Mon 16-Dec-13 07:51:34

9% which makes me very boring I suspect!

Nelliemoser Mon 16-Dec-13 07:41:35

18% me I am not surprised. It goes with the other of these sorts of personality or political views "tests" I have done.
Unless of course, I am so psychopathic that I have deliberately lied in my answers to look good. wink

Aka Mon 16-Dec-13 07:32:07

According to the programme very few people who scored high on the spectrum are 'pyschos' in the sense we tend to use the term. There are two sides to this personality type, and they can be courageous, risk takers, decision makers. It also demonstrated that if you were in trouble, or danger or a tight situation these are the people you'd need 'at your back'. Think of soldiers who win medals for bravery, or athletes and sportsmen with tenacity and the 'killer instinct'.

Joan Mon 16-Dec-13 00:47:13

3% here, and a warning to be careful of psychopaths! Gosh - I hope I'm not a wimp with such a low reading!

janerowena Sun 15-Dec-13 23:43:25

I got a far higher score than anyone here is owning up to, but the reading was good, saying that I am practical and pragmatic, and am moderate even in moderation. :-) I am a realist - but then I knew that. Even if I answered a full house on all of those questions I think it would make me a deeply unpleasant person, not a psychopath. It was interesting though. It's tempting in those quizzes to lie to yourself, which is ridiculous.

Aka Sun 15-Dec-13 21:38:13

Just watched the programme in Catch Up. Fascinating.

MiceElf Sun 15-Dec-13 19:42:19

I was rubbish at identifying psychopaths. I need to be more careful.

absent Sun 15-Dec-13 19:39:52

Sorry Ana – only one professionally diagnosed psychopath.

Ana Sun 15-Dec-13 19:38:24

How do you know you've only met one, absent?

absent Sun 15-Dec-13 19:37:23

I have met only one psychopath in my entire life and I'm not sure that would help me identify any others I might have the misfortune to encounter.
