Liberty of London.

I haven't seen the tv series, but I go to London west end once or twice a year and always call in at Liberty's.
Thei fabric depts are magic - I once bought a length of their fine wool material, brown floral, and made a two piece - still got it.

I thought the staff seemed happy too dahlia.

mollie - don't worry about getting your fabrics out, looking at them and putting them back. It's exactly what stamp collectors do ! Somewhere I have a list of 70 reasons to buy fabric and looking at it is only one !

I'm loving this programme, too, although the amount people spend in Liberty's is amazing. Did you see the carpets being delivered on Monday's programme - over £1 million's worth in the van! Nice to know there are still places out there that command such loyalty in their staff - they all seemed very happy to work there, or am I being naïve?
There used to be a Liberty's in Cheltenham, DH bought me a beautiful shawl which I still enjoy to this day.

I would keep the remnants mollie65. Or could you use them in some way? A quilt? Cushion covers? Art Nouveau too. But maybe it's all too beautiful to cut.
I think there are 3 programmes to the series so it's the last one next week.

I would haunt Liberty when I lived in London even if I could not afford those wonderful rugs and fabrics) and used to meet my son in their coffee shop when he was at University some 20 years ago. I did have shares in the company (only a few) but it was taken over some years ago (forget by whom) and I was so sad to lose the shares and no longer feel part of such a wonderful company.
I do have lots of liberty fabric remnants - yards of the stuff in some cases - and feel I should sell them but they tend to stick to my fingers and I just take them out and look at them - then put them away again. (most are Art Nouveau designs).
must try and catch up with the program but feel the current Liberty is not what it was back in the 70s.

And oh to have a Liberty print named after you. I'd be as thrilled as the Receptionist lady was. I liked her idea of wanting to be buried wrapped in her Liberty print forever.

I've always loved Liberty. You can always find that unusual present for someone! Their Christmas decorations are gorgeous. I'm enjoying the TV programme - I must watch the first one on catch up tv.

I don't think they where all gay yoga they where all definatley up to the minute with their dress styles and looked good, you will find as I find with my gay friends they certainly look after you and are far better when helping you with furnishings.

I watched it , but it seemed to waft around a bit , could have done with a bit more depth .
ALTHOUGH I was rather taken with Ed Burstall , CEO , thought he had a lovely quirky face .
what I found quite amusing though that all the chaps seemed to have similar haircuts.
I have actually visited the shop and it really rather "Special" , very friendly staff , bit pricy for me though and aren"t the prints sooo beautiful

I loved last weeks programme when an assistant was honoured for 40yrs service and was facinated at her selling skills,I could spend all day in the fabric department a dream come true,it is certainly on my to do list for next year.

It's lovely shop . There is a thrill about going into a beautiful department shop - like Bonwit Teller in New York or Gallerie Lafayette in Paris. My grandmother bought me a Liberty scarf for my 21st birthday - sadly some rotter stole it.

It's a great shop to visit for sensory delight isn't it. The scarves !!!! The silks !!!! If colours and textures do it for you, there is nowhere better (you're allowed to touch!)

They also of course sell a certain amount of highly priced rubbish e.g. in the "garden" department.

I really enjoyed last night's programme. The wools and fabrics are fabulous. I have an old Liberty holdall (think Mary Poppins, but olive green fabric) which has lasted and lasted. It seems to take everything but the kitchen sink.

I watched it last night and really enjoyed it. There was a small branch of Liberty in Chester but sadly and surprisingly it didn't last. They used to sell grapefruit perfumed soap which was divine, although I've looked online it doesn't seem to be available any more.

Yes, I am loving it! I usually have no wish to go anywhere near London, and I hate shopping, but this programme has made me want to see Liberty.
