Can anybody help..? In the 1950's I used to watch a 15-minute TV programme each weekday at about 2 o'clock (all in glorious black and white of course). As far as I remember it was 'Picture Book' on a Monday, 'Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men' on a Wednesday, 'Rag, Tag and Bobtail' on a Thursday and (my favourite) 'The Woodentops', on a Friday. BUT what was the prog on a Tuesday? Lots of you will be far too young to be able to help sad, but hope somebody can answer this as I know it's silly, but it's really driving me mad trying to remember...

I didn't spend much time in England during the fifties but when I did I stayed with my grandparents who had a small black and white telly.

Could it have been Andy Pandy?

Mamie Sun 17-Nov-13 20:44:47

Definitely Andy Pandy on Tuesday.

Ana Sun 17-Nov-13 20:44:55

Yes, it was Andy Pandy - I remember them all too! smile

Picture Book was my favourite.

Muffin the Mule was my favourite. A couple of years ago, I read he was being brought back, well, a new Muffin series planned. I do wish Muffin would return. Tegan - imagine meeting Muffin, I bet Aka feels as I do, why couldn't we have met Muffin.

Aka Sun 17-Nov-13 21:26:29

Yes envy

Aka Sun 17-Nov-13 21:27:16

That's taking one-up-manship to the extreme.

Aka Sun 17-Nov-13 21:27:42

It was Andy Pandy. My favourite was Picture Book.

Does anyone remember Torchy the Battery Boy? The tune was 'Torchy, Torchy the little battery boy'. See you have just mentioned Torchy Tegan

shock blush really?

JoyBloggs Sun 17-Nov-13 21:57:15

Oh, wow, thank you all for putting me out of my misery so speedily! How could I forget Andy Pandy, shame on me, blush. Am I right that his chums were Teddy and Looby Loo and they co-habited in a large basket?

Tegan just dabbing my eyes after seeing the Woodentops again after more than 50 years - had never occurred to me to check out youtube for such an old prog, so a big thank you for that - it's made my day.

I liked Picture Book too - a very nice smiley lady with a gentle voice. Bill and Ben really got up my nose (talked rubbish!) and I wasn't especially fond of Rag, Tag and Bobtail, but they were better than nothing - there was so little on the box for children then.

Tegan Sun 17-Nov-13 21:57:53

I can't do the photo [I need a scanner?]. It was taken at Lewis's [Galen and Kate will know Lewis's]. Twizzel was well scary; I don't understand why I didn't have nightmares from watching that shock.

Tegan Sun 17-Nov-13 22:02:04

Joy; I found a film caled Savage Sam on utube the other day; I hadn't seen that for over 50 years and, yes, I was in tears seeing it. I could always remember the theme tune and it absolutely crippled me hearing it again.utube is like a time machine; sometimes it makes me happy but sometimes the nostalgia overwhelms me [and I feel soo old]. But to see things like The Box of Delights and The Children of Green Knowe again is wonderful.

Ana Sun 17-Nov-13 22:17:42

newist - is that true? shock I watched it in all innocence! Why wasn't there an outcry at the time (by adults, obviously)?

merlotgran Sun 17-Nov-13 22:22:05

Not to mention Roger, the cabin boy! grin

Ana Sun 17-Nov-13 22:26:51

Bl**dy hell! The BBC was a den of iniquity even in those days, and I never knew! shock

positivepam Sun 17-Nov-13 22:46:21

I have a video with all of them on!! Wooden tops was definitely my favourite. I must get them on dvd now. Oh gosh it takes you back. grin
