I have not heard all of Charlotte's lecture but the bit I heard was impressive. She discusses the sexualised imagery of pop videos form her own experience. These soft porn images are considered main stream and small children are exposed to them regularly. Channels like MTV transmit them in an endless stream. Is there anything that us grandparents can do about this pernicious industry?
I'm going to make the time to listen to the whole lecture later. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24528022

Well done, Charlotte for speaking out. It bothers me to see young children copying sexualised dance moves and singing precociously sexual lyrics that they have no understanding about. I know children have sung and danced to pop songs since they began, but when it amounts to soft porn, like the videos made by Rihanna, there's a line to be drawn.

Well done to Charlotte Church in speaking out against the sexualisation of young people and to Romola Garai who is campaigning about the sale of "lads' mags" in supermarkets.

Yes, good on you Charlotte. It's particularly good, knowing that Charlotte grew up in a blaze of publicity, and with parents whose lives didn't always provide the stability she needed, but she seems to be managing to make the transition from adolescence into young adult hood very well.

A while ago absentdaughter and her husband were called to a meeting, including social services, at the school their children attended at the time and virtually accused of child abuse. One of the main pieces of "evidence" was that their maybe six-year-old daughter danced in a sexually provocative manner. Apart from the issue of the "eye of the beholder", you have only to look at these pop videos to know exactly what she was copying. So well done Charlotte Church!

(The other main piece of "evidence" was a verbal misunderstanding. It was soon made very clear that there was no form of abuse and that the school and social services were completely out of order in not following guidelines.)

Just listened to this important link Jess. Good for Charlotte in using her other voice on this issue.
