Anyone watch this and now considering giving it a miss now Brian has left the series ?

Hunt Thu 26-Sept-13 23:02:37

Whoops! not Ian Lavender but Nicholas Lyndhurst! What time did I write that? Ah! Should have been in bed!

Deedaa Thu 26-Sept-13 21:26:26

I'd love to see Kathy Burke in something serious for a change. She's such a stunningly good actor.

annodomini Thu 26-Sept-13 13:37:10

Ian Lavender? Do you mean Nicholas Lyndhurst, Hunt?

merlotgran Thu 26-Sept-13 13:25:42

Is Ian Lavender in it? I didn't spot him.

Ana Thu 26-Sept-13 13:01:34

I still think there are so many other older actresses they could have chosen instead - Kathy Burke would have been wonderful in the part!

kittylester Thu 26-Sept-13 12:26:08

I know you are all waiting to hear what I thought so - I watched it last night and thought it looked promising grin

Couldn't help feeling sorry for Tamzin Outhwaite having to deal with an unfaithful husband on TV as well as in real life. sad

NfkDumpling Thu 26-Sept-13 11:56:52

Dennis Lawson? I hadn't thought of him as tasty - perhaps - in the right light - after a wine or two!

gma Thu 26-Sept-13 11:49:21

Enjoying this series of 'new tricks' I miss Jacks pithy one liners and of course Brian and the wise and understanding Esther!
Do you think we will be told when Jack passes away??sad
I found the scene with Sandra talking to Jack and then Jack telling her that she was doing the right thing very moving.
Denis Lawson is a bit tasty though!!

Hunt Thu 26-Sept-13 10:44:08

I think it's going to be Sasha and Ian Lavender's character who provide the romance.

Jackthelad Wed 25-Sept-13 10:57:57

From time to time you get a TV series that has a certain je ne sais quoi, but there then comes a time where the cast get tired or the writers run out of steam and the wise ones stop while the audience still asks for more. However that is not the way it happens and they just go on until it all falls apart and that is how I Now see New Tricks past its sell by date.

ninathenana Wed 25-Sept-13 10:40:49

I agree, about Sasha's personal life. Would have been nice to have a happy couple.
I too am reserving judgment. I hope she's going to turn out to be a bit more fiesty than last night.

merlotgran Wed 25-Sept-13 10:26:51

I like the new characters, especially Denis Lawson's. I was getting bored with Brian's antics and Sandra whatsername was turning into a bossy old haridan.

Dennis Waterman is a one trick pony but he's OK alongside the others.

annsixty Wed 25-Sept-13 09:13:10

Yes what have we seen him in before (Robert Gillespie)?

feetlebaum Wed 25-Sept-13 09:09:10

I agree with NfkDumpling (and thereby, I'm sure, must hang a tale!)
-- She'll be right, as our antipodean chums might put it. Last night's story was really incidental to bedding in (ooh!) Sasha (Tamzin Outhwaite) and that it did well. Dennis "Grumpy Cat" Waterman's character even cracked a smile, so she's obviously accepted. Incidentally, I didn't recognise Robert Gillespie, as Massimo, until I re-ran the credits -fine performance.

annsixty Wed 25-Sept-13 09:04:30

I felt the story line was sacrificed to introduce the new character and for me it did not really work. However as it is a programme I usually like I will stick with it for a few more episodes. Do agree though about the adultery line , just added for what?

Charleygirl Wed 25-Sept-13 08:55:49

I am in agreement with Printmiss. I did not really enjoy the episode although it had a good write up. I will give it a couple more shots but there is little else to watch as I do not have multi channels.

PRINTMISS Wed 25-Sept-13 08:49:24

I just do not know why the new girl had to have a cheating husband! Probably going to be part of the story for the future (sorry if I am ruining this for you kittylester), but it would be good to have a couple living and working together without one or the other having an 'affair', but then of course I am probably old fashioned (I am old fashioned!). Not sure I enjoyed last night's episode, seemed a bit bitty piecy. Reserved judgement.

kittylester Wed 25-Sept-13 07:12:48

Hoping to watch today, so I'll let you know grin

NfkDumpling Wed 25-Sept-13 07:10:53

Yep, she'll do.

Hunt Tue 24-Sept-13 23:09:24

What about the 'new girl'? promising, I thought.

annodomini Mon 23-Sept-13 15:41:29

They have acquired two first rate replacements in Denis Lawson and Nicholas Lyndhurst - very different in style from their predecessors but each with an individual style of his own. I can't forget Denis Lawson's role in Local Hero! Nicholas Lyndhurst has to live down his role as Rodney but this character is very different and has an interesting personal story as well. The daughter promises well too. I also have misgivings about Tamsin Outhwaite but the proof of the pudding...

Penstemmon Mon 23-Sept-13 15:37:48

Tamzin Outhwaite is a good actor though.

Think the departures were prompted by some disagreement off screen. No idea why I think that but must have heard it somewhere!

kittylester Mon 23-Sept-13 14:54:36

Gibby not sure they can make people stay if they want to go!

Gibby Mon 23-Sept-13 14:44:37

We too are sad to see the old faces go. One of the very few programmes I sit down to watch even though we are all 'teched' up with loads of channels. Why do they have to mess around with such a good cast. If it ain't broke why fix it! Let's see how it goes from here, really hope we will not be disappointed. At least we still have the Italian detective (both old and young) to look forward to.

Grannyeggs Thu 19-Sept-13 10:03:58

I do like Nicholas Lindhurst, but I'm not sure I will warm to Tamsin Outhwaite, but will give her a go. I know Denis Waterman can't act and has only two facial expressions, but I hope he doesn't go, he's the last original.
