Another programme being repeated again, again and again.... What a list: Strictly, 'the Apprentice, X-Factor, Dragons Den, Celebrity Chef, Bake - Off, Big Brother, have I missed any? I honestly don't watch most of these as it is just the same format with different participants .

I agree graces but it's not 'just a bit of fun' if it's how you earn a living.
Although it's a lot easier than emptying bins!

Like other programmes with a "winning" formula (Masterchef, Celebrity Masterchef, Never heard of them but they've been in a soap - once - Masterchef ), I think it has degenerated into a parody of itself. Still enjoy it, but the producers are in danger of believing their own "hype" - who needs the heart-stopping suspense (boom ba boom ba boom) of finding out who each partner is? Who is convinced by the squeals of fake glee at being paired with either a tangoed bimbo Barbie or a loser with 2 left feet who will be out in the first round? It is all a bit of fun - not to be taken seriously, least of all by those involved in its production.

They were saying on The Mathew Right show this morning that the show took a long time to record because, wait for it: they moved studios and Bruce was confused.

Deedaa Sun 08-Sept-13 22:28:02

Me too! I just watch the dancing smile

annodomini Sun 08-Sept-13 16:28:16

That's my strategy too, petra.

petra Sun 08-Sept-13 15:31:33

I record it so I can skip through the embarrassing/ cring making/ puerile 'jokes'

susieb755 Sun 08-Sept-13 10:09:25

I love the dancing, but get fed up with the silliness, and really wish Brucie would retire

JessM Sun 08-Sept-13 08:55:15

There's always one or two who have been to stage school and are quite good at dancing (even if not ballroom) when they start.
I think i need to start another thread on why Deborah M is doing this. hmm

PRINTMISS Sun 08-Sept-13 07:56:33

I was convinced that Anton was going to get Vanessa as a partner, he always seems to get the 'dodgy' ones, pleased he has someone decent this time. I thought it was all a bit 'put-together' last night, no real rhythm to anything, and really Brucie should give up.

Hunt Sat 07-Sept-13 23:39:32

It's all the false bonhomie that gets me.''Oh, !'m so thrilled to have you as my partner!'' translates as ''Bother I really, really wanted Anton''

numberplease Sat 07-Sept-13 21:58:22

I`m expecting Tony Jacklin to be one of the early leavers.

BAnanas Sat 07-Sept-13 21:00:31

Having just got a nano second of seeing them all perform tonight, my money is on the Corrie girl, sorry don't know her name, cause I don't watch it anymore, but she looked as if she might be promising. Picked Louis Smith as the winner right from the getgo last year. It will all become clear after a couple of weeks I guess, but somehow I don't think either the hairy biker or Vanessa will make the final three!

annodomini Sat 07-Sept-13 20:48:41

When they did their first dance, I thought that Patrick Robinson looked a bit of all right. wink

annodomini Sat 07-Sept-13 20:47:43

How about the line-up proclaimed with much razzmatazz tonight? I was so pleased for Anton's sake that he didn't get lumbered with Vanessa Feltz - that was probably too predictable!

annodomini Sun 01-Sept-13 19:26:19

I've been expecting Rachel Riley to turn up - she is certainly easy on the eye and articulate. I thought we'd already had Vanessa, or was that just in one of my nightmares? Ben Cohen would be the obligatory Rugby hunk and hasn't Susannah Reed been rather good in the Children in Need (or Sports/Comic Relief) Strictly contest?

AlieOxon Sun 01-Sept-13 19:06:17

There's too much talking and not enough dancing!

Deedaa Sun 01-Sept-13 18:40:03

Oh lord! The thought of Jullien McDonald wearing spangles instead of designing them !!! Have vaguely seen the Countdown girl but have no idea who Abby Clancy and Ben Cohen are confused

I feel like that judge who wanted to be told who the Beatles were back in the 60's.

JessM Sun 01-Sept-13 18:01:44

I dont know who any of these people are except the bikers... I usually know the sport ones, apart from footballers who are too well off to need to go on strictly.

Charleygirl Sun 01-Sept-13 14:21:22

"kittylester"- they do not give up their day jobs, more is the pity. One of the Hairy Bikers is also joining but I do not know which one. Rachel Riley from Countdown should bring some glamour to the show.

kittylester Sun 01-Sept-13 13:44:30

Some more names - Susanna Reid (at least she might not be on Breakfast!) Abby Clancy, Ben Cohen and Julien McDonald.

Getting excited now!!

PRINTMISS Sun 01-Sept-13 07:28:57

I agree Deedaa most of them do have an ego, but then a lot of them are stars in their own particular spheres, so egos are part of the baggage, I think. Believing in oneself in the best possible way. John Barrymore always appears to me to be a little superior, but as you say, he does certainly poke fun at himself as well, and puts on a good show. Jimmy Tarbuck has been mentioned in the sex investigations, and had to retire from Strictly after one episode, because of health problems. I think Vanessa has already done Strictly too. I wonder if the BBC has to take out extra insurance for the over-the-hill and over-weight stars(?) who take part in this competition. Still love it though.

JessM Sat 31-Aug-13 19:24:14

Hasn't Vanessa already done it?

Deedaa Sat 31-Aug-13 18:45:58

I don't think his ego is that big PRINTMISS he always seems pretty good at poking fun at himself. Anyway a big ego would knock most of them out wouldn't it.

Wasn't Jimmy Tarbuck mentioned in one of the current sex investigations? That would surely put him out of the running. Presumably Vanessa Feltz will be the compulsory larger lady of a certain age (please could the costume designers come up with something flattering for once?) and I believe Susannah Reid is down as the compulsory newsreader.
