Strictly will return to Blackpool Tower in November. Draw for tickets now on BBC shows websitesmile

I think that's a perceptive analysis, Miney. I am sure that, never in a month, of Sundays could I twirl around the dance floor like the contestants, but one can dream.

I'll be watching live tonight! Woe betide anyone who tried to drag me away from Strictly!

GrandmaMiney Sat 23-Nov-13 10:40:37

Just read Ms Kevanna's column in Radio Times and I can now understand what SCD is really all about. DD writes: "The range of celebrity dancers means that every viewer can see a representation of their own dream out there, twirling--or in some cases stumbling--around that dance floor. Each viewer can identify with a celebrity and think if I were partnered with a professional who spent hours teaching me, perhaps I could dance like that'. And that's the magic of the show" sunshine What do you think?

GrandmaMiney Sat 23-Nov-13 00:28:30

Just logged on after my Friday stint at DD's house to give grandsons their tea.
It is wonderful to read your supportive posts--so much appreciated, thank you. smile
DD now back from dress rehearsal, where she was still trying to 'fall in love with' the Cha cha challenge. Maybe hearing about her boys' dress down day will get her in the mood--or not! [They wore their pyjamas to school today, to raise money for the Philippines' appeal]. I don't think she's dressing down tomorrow--but one just never knows! Time for my bed, I think. moon

We'll be watching and voting. Good Luck, Susanna wine

Deedaa Fri 22-Nov-13 22:04:21

The upside of DH being in hospital is that I shall be able to watch Strictly live tomorrow!

annodomini Fri 22-Nov-13 10:09:09

Good luck to Susanna tomorrow. I saw her on It Takes Two when she had a few misgivings about the cha-cha-cha but she is so committed that I'm sure she'll give it her best. I will be on line voting!

GrandmaMiney Fri 22-Nov-13 09:24:44

After last week's 'high', it's back to anxiety corner now. I don't think the cha cha cha can come up to last week! Sorry about the boring repetition--but obviously the competitive side is hotting up now and voting gets more and more crucial. Please! flowers wine
Have a great weekend whatever you're doing. Could be clearing snow-- by the look of the sky this morning. brew

Much as I would love to kid you all that I am that glamorous 'mature' woman, I'm not! envy!
I know I saw a shot of Sue Johnston (actress in many things--Brookside yonks ago, and last year she was the G'ma in the drama where the extended family went to see the Northern Lights for the first Christmas after the G'dad had died, can't remember what it was called).

When Susanna and Kevin were listening to the judges' comments, the camera did a very quick pan to Jane Horrocks (Little Voice actress) looking quite glam with shortish blonde hair and specs--and at the bottom right of this shot is my younger son, one of Susanna's older brothers. But I nearly missed him--though he did look very proud of his little sister!

Susanna's partner has invited me to go with him on 30 November so, as Charleygirl wrote, please keep voting (at least to keep DD in until then!). smile

Absolutely no one is safe in SCD, and the public vote is absolutely vital--right up to the very last minute of the very last episode! Fingers crossed for Results at 7.15 tonight wine wine. I do not know the results--it really is a secret, but I haven't had my grandson duty cancelled for this week yet, so fingers crossed. smile

Charleygirl Sun 17-Nov-13 15:06:41

Susanna was superb, looking lovely in that gown. She deserved 4 tens. I did not like the amount of eyeliner applied to Natalie's eyes. She looked as though she had 2 black eyes.

It will be close at the end I think so we must continue to vote for Susanna. She has never let us down once and continues to improve.

I also thought that was a shot of her mother- I wonder who it was?

hummingbird Sun 17-Nov-13 14:32:08

GMM your DD was amazing! You must be absolutely bursting with pride - I know I would be! She's certainly got my vote!

Nonu Sun 17-Nov-13 13:58:05

wink winkTo Ana.

annodomini Sun 17-Nov-13 13:51:08

I didn't notice that, Ana, until I backtracked up the thread. I think I will email 'It takes two'!

Ana Sun 17-Nov-13 13:23:17

No one hmm

Ana Sun 17-Nov-13 13:22:58

I said that, anno! (No on answered...wink)

annodomini Sun 17-Nov-13 13:09:26

Something that puzzled me: how on earth did they get all Natalie's hair under that wig? hmm

whenim64 Sun 17-Nov-13 13:03:01

Grandmaminey, Greatnan loved Strictly and when I stayed she showed me a photo of herself dancing in a beautiful gown. She was quite a stunner as a young woman. We watched it together after dinner on the Saturday and she was cheering Susanna on. smile

gracesmum Sun 17-Nov-13 12:49:13

When the camera zoomed in on a very glamorous lady, shall we say, of slightly more mature years, I wondered if it was you, GMM!! It must be torture for you each week while bursting with pride at the same time. Susannah was stunning but I am afraid I thought the lovely Kevin from Grimsby could have held back a bit as he tended to take some of the spotlight off her. My prediction for what it is worth is :
Mark off tonight, Fiona next week, Ben after that and then Sophie. Then the real battle begins between Abby, Patrick, what's her name who was ill last week and Susannah - all fantastic dancers (but I know where my loyalties lie!!)

GrandmaMiney Sun 17-Nov-13 12:01:34

It's been in my mind all morning, so I'll write it here. You know, I really miss not being able to share this 'journey' with Greatnan.sad
Like many gransnetters we shared various things, and she had sent me a lovely supportive pm after my first post on this thread--wishing DD well.
She will never be forgotten smile

cazthebookworm Sun 17-Nov-13 11:06:57

I thought the dancing at the opening of the show was fantastic, an ecletic mix of young dancers who were brilliant, and then the older dancers, plus the professionals, it was amazing, and created an atmosphere that set the whole tone for the evening. I did not know Kevin's family were dancing, that makes it even more special. All the dancers have reached such a high standard now which they must keep up every week. It will be hard to chose a winner although I too think it will be between Fiona and Mark for the dance off tonight. I hope the public vote sensibly, sadly it is not always so and they vote for their favourite personality and not necessarily the best dancer.

PRINTMISS Sun 17-Nov-13 09:02:37

Of course Susannah will go through to the final, she deserves it, but I wonder who will join her? I think Brendan must have been quite shocked that he did not stay top of the Leader board, after that opening dance scoring so well, and then along came three other dancers all doing even better! All have improved so much, it is almost unbelievable the professionals must have worked really hard with each and every one of them. I think Fiona and Mark will be in the dance off tonight, and lovely though Mark is I do think he has reached his limit.

Gagagran Sun 17-Nov-13 08:24:37

Miney your obvious pride in your DD is well founded and well deserved. Theirs was the dance of the night, if not the series for me. I thought she looked amazing and the dance was mesmeric. I think she must be a top contender to win overall now. Jolly well done to them both! smile

GrandmaMiney Sun 17-Nov-13 08:17:18

flowers to thank all you wonderful gransnettersusannasupporters.
I know she will value your votes, and I cannot thank you enough for the feeling of support so many of you give me.
I was not in Blackpool, just 'home alone' with a Spanish wine to be in the mood and calm my nerves! I was stunned by their dramatic Paso Doble, and yes, I was thrilled for Team Kevanna--and proud of DD.
As both of us have had 'shock failure' in the past we can never really believe we will get the results we hope for, however hard we work.
DD's 'mantra' is "everything's impossible--until it's done", which is why she was genuinely shocked to get even one 10. Neither of us can ever believe we're any good, until there is concrete, objective proof.
With that, all our relief and joy just bubbles up and we are so grateful! Especially to those who have helped us smileflowers
(Sorry if this sounds a bit 'yucky', but it is honestly how it feels)

grannyactivist Sun 17-Nov-13 02:43:34

Wow! Susanna's dance was electric tonight. I thought all the couples rose to the occasion, but without a doubt Susanna and Kevin stole the show.

Deedaa Sun 17-Nov-13 00:00:22

What a great evening of dancing! You could hardly put a pin between them all. Glad to see Susannah score so well - a truly Spanish Paso Doble. Everyone had raised their game for Blackpool and it will be interesting (or frustrating!) to see how the public votes.

sunflowersuffolk Sat 16-Nov-13 20:48:24

Just read the following - how lovely :-
Kevin Clifton's family to feature in tonight's Strictly Come Dancing opening routine - By Grimsby Telegraph | Posted: November 16, 2013

THE Clifton family are preparing flamboyant dance moves for a carnival themed routine to join their son on the BBC show.

Opening tonight's Strictly Come Dancing show will be parents Keith and Judy Clifton at The Tower Ballroom, Blackpool.

Also performing will be dance champion Joanne, Kevin's sister, Karen, Kevin's fiancee who recently got voted out of the show and 21 couples from Cliftons Dance Academy.

Keith said: "I am absolutely delighted to be dancing on the show and the programme will be giving a big push to Grimsby.
