Mayday

Anyone watch the first episode? It will be the last that we watch!

Compared to the Scandinavian thrillers/detective films that we have become used to this is a really lightweight programme.

So many of the British offerings have gone down the Midsomer Murders route - fanciful and surreal - and Lewis has been heading that way too. Mayday even had a Midsomer Murders type village green.

None of the characters were remotely believable; and the obligatory "bonk on the sofa" added nothing at all to the tale.

Hackneyed ploys of making children's toys, rocking horse, bits of dolls look sinister have all been done before ad nauseam - and done better by the likes of Hitchcock. What a disappointment that was - it had been built up as being really good.

Oh yes! The dog's meal! shock grin

DH and I really enjoyed the end, murderer is now being pursued by "ghost" of girl he murdered, the dog is eating the remains of his unpleasant master, great stuff! Complete nonsense, but we loved it!

Horses for courses.

shysal two hours of your life that you'll never get back. I hate that feeling! I watched the first half hour and then - because there wasn't a single character that I felt any sympathy for or could identify with - I bailed. Thank goodness I did.

It was an unsatisfactory ending. But's that's ok.

I didn't see anything to suggest the real killer was not going to get away with it.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yes we stuck it out to the end. The wrong person was framed but the real murderer was pointed at in the end with a view to no escape.

{sorry to be obtuse but realised I was about to spoil it for anyone with the stamina to watch it through on catch Up.}

But it was daft and ends were not tied up properly.

We recorded all of Mayday before starting to watch it. Thank goodness for recorders, what a load of garbage, BBC are really scraping the barrel. I know now why I rarely watch TV.

I stuck with it to the end - but what was the end of the story, or am I being thick? Was the right person going to be convicted? Did Seth die? I HATE endings like that! What a waste of my viewing time. confused

Broadchurch was well acted and I look forward to the next episode. smile

I am hooked but they are a deeply wierd and unpleasant bunch. Can't understand a lot of what they say, I have the volume turned up to catch some of it.I am just curious about who did what to who.DH thinks it was the boy, the only vaguely sympathetic character there.

j08 Tue 05-Mar-13 09:31:06

I had the subtitles on.

Elijay Tue 05-Mar-13 09:09:34

I found it hard to follow so I'll not be bothering with the other episodes.

j08 Mon 04-Mar-13 23:09:15

Enjoyed it again this evening. smile

The trailer quite put me off this...all the characters looked deeply unpleasant, all so deeply dreary. Give me the so called gloomy Scandinavian stuff anyday! Mind you, OH loves Spiral whilst I can't see a single redeeming character in it so don't watch it either.

Forzanonna Mon 04-Mar-13 20:18:05

Seemed like every man they introduced was madder than the previous! Might give it another go tonight though, and watch Broachchurch on catch up?

Grannylin Mon 04-Mar-13 20:11:41

Great minds all thinking too fast...or slow

Grannylin Mon 04-Mar-13 20:10:25

I was going to watch it but being a bit of a wimp, it scared me- don't like weird men!Think I'm going to watch Broadchurch instead as it's on at the same time and I know Dorset better than Dorking grin

wisewoman Mon 04-Mar-13 20:08:38

I thought it was awful - just silly. Every scene was drenched in "menace" with music to go with it. Yuk. Will try Broadchurch tonight It has got Olivia from Rev in it and she is always good.

Eloethan Mon 04-Mar-13 20:08:25

Broadchurch - good line-up of actors too - not that you can always depend on that.

sunflowersuffolk Mon 04-Mar-13 20:04:45

There is another new series, Broadchurch, starting tonight at same time as Mayday - 9pm - looks quite interesting, a murder mystery set in Dorset.

Marelli Mon 04-Mar-13 19:51:04

Wasn't all that impressed by Mayday, either. Was going to give it another go tonight, but don't know if I can be bothered.

Ana Mon 04-Mar-13 18:19:41

I agree about Lightfields, merlot. Same story, just a different death and a different cast...not gripping so far.

merlotgran Mon 04-Mar-13 18:03:07

I'll give it another go tonight as well.

Another drama which needs to pick up PDQ is Lightfields on Wed night. Not as good as its predecessor, Marchlands....so far.

j08 Mon 04-Mar-13 17:51:04

filmed in Dorking

Grannyeggs Mon 04-Mar-13 17:47:52

I mean one.
