Too much television

It has concerned me for a long time that children are babysat by the TV because:- it's easier than interacting/time constraints on parents/habit/ignorance etc etc. As I have a grandson of my own now who is two and a half and is watching some TV, though not a lot (he loves Night Time Garden) I discussed the issue with my daughter who, not blowing anyone's trumpet here, is an intelligent woman, and she suggested I watch :-

If anyone was in any doubt about the effect the TV has on limiting the brain's proper development in a child when the TV is unsupervised and allowed to be watched ad infinitum this will clear up any doubt at all!

This was a really interesting clip. And actually just reinforced to me the importance of interactive play. I think TV in moderation is fine - don't want to be snobby about it. What matters most is not having the loud, overly bright, speedy programmes on that will overstimulate but to choose discernibly - personally I used to love watching Telly tabbies with my grandchildren (those who are 10 and 8 now) - it was quite soothing.
