I think one of EmMmerdale Farm's cows has got loose somewhere...

Oh, Greatnan! At last we agree on something! grin

glammanana Sat 25-Aug-12 18:38:31

As my mum used to say "there will be tears before bedtime" grin

Emmerdale Farm? Where have you been for the last umpteen years, feetlebaum? smile

Anagram Sat 25-Aug-12 20:04:42

Don't worry, feetlebaum, my DH still refers to Manchester Airport as Ringway....confused

Greatnan Sat 25-Aug-12 20:20:33

So do I! And Liverpool Airport is Speke.

Anagram Sat 25-Aug-12 20:32:07

Yes! But a rather more recent change, of course.

Birmingham is Elmdon... and there was a grass runway for light aircraft at Luton*... So what's the question again? Where have I been for the last umpteen years? Here, mostly, but I don't watch soaps, like Emmerdale Farm...

*You came in as though landing on the main tarmac runway, and then veered to the left about 40 degrees - scared the crap out of me, that did - I was sitting in the back at the time.

Try taking off from Alderney in certain wind directions, they do the same but aim for the cliff edge! Hair raising, especially when you're not expecting it!

Bez Fri 31-Aug-12 13:46:46

Gibraltar can be hair raising too!

Funchal, on Madeira, has one of the shortest runways I have ever met and if you shot off the end you would be in the sea!

annodomini Fri 31-Aug-12 16:20:20

Oh yes, Funchal was hairy! I just kept my eyes shut and hoped that the pilot wasn't doing the same. Someone who has been there recently told me it had been improved.

The airport at Fuerueventura has a burnt out plane at the end of a short runway, the local firemen use it for practice,it looks very inviting when you come into land I don't say !!

Anagram Fri 31-Aug-12 17:38:43

grin glamma! What a welcoming sight....

Granny23 Fri 31-Aug-12 18:02:49

On the other hand, landing on the shell beach at Eliogarry, Isle of Barra is wonderful. No bumps - you just seem to glide down. Then it is a 1 minute walk to collect your baggage. You don't even have to enter the terminal building unless you want to visit the toilets or are tempted by the cafe's home made soup and baking.

Marelli Fri 31-Aug-12 18:17:59

Walked that beach many times, Granny23! smile
