Rosemary and Thyme

This is even dafter than Miss Marple, Murder She Wrote and Poirot.
Leaving aside the fact that nobody would employ the gardeners because somebody gets murdered on every job they do, today they had a strong hunch who was involved in two murders and failed to inform the police, but went off on their own. Well, at least the police are not portrayed as bumbling idiots who let the amateurs interrogate witnesses and then get all the suspects together to unmask the killer. (Yes, I know, I could always stop watching, but it was all sport on the other channels).

I love Rosemary and Thyme. It's so corny but very comfortable and the gardens are fabulous. smile

Mamie Sun 08-Jul-12 13:55:57

Oh but I love the gardening! Everything is in bloom in the garden at the same time, they plant everything from pots from the garden centre and it flowers straight away, they never break into a sweat or have dirty hands and they carry on gardening in a crime scene!
Is this the "Anyone not for tennis?" thread.

Well, reluctantly I have to admit that I have now switched to BBC1, just for the historical moment! I watched the 1966 World Cup too, and 'Bolero'. That more or less sums up my interest in sport.

Ditto

Rosemary & Thyme is more like Acorn Antiques than Acorn Antiques! But I occasionally watch it despite the fact it is so awful..or maybe because it is!

This is a dreadful programme and whist I think Felicity Kendall is certainly off her game now as an actress I think Pam Ferris is an excellent actress in a dreadful programme.

FKs expressions are so odd! Too much surgery methinks has made her face a bit 2-dimensional!

greenmossgiel Sun 08-Jul-12 16:27:18

And yet, I believe FK denies ever having had anything 'done'....wink

johanna Sun 08-Jul-12 16:33:51

Do not really mind what FK has or has not 'done'.
The woman is so up herself that I can't stand to watch her anymore.

Anagram Sun 08-Jul-12 16:36:41

I agree. Affected mannerisms and that rather strange speaking voice....

greenmossgiel Sun 08-Jul-12 16:41:52

Her speaking voice has always been strange! All 'bubbly' and childish when she was younger and with an impish grin.....impish grins don't work so well with downward-pulling lines - perhaps the work she's had done pulls the lines up! grin

nanaej Sun 08-Jul-12 17:34:04

I have no idea if she has had any cosmetic work..not really my business.. but she does look a bit 'taut' and this appears to stop her relaxing her face. If you are on TV in a 'drama' you kind of need to have more than two expressions!

Mamie Sun 08-Jul-12 17:37:51

Oh I don't know - I would have thought two expressions were plenty for the Rosemary and Thyme plots... Who was the actress who was said (by Dorothy Parker?) to have run the full gamut of her emotions from A to B?

nanaej Sun 08-Jul-12 17:40:22

mamie grin

Mamie Sun 08-Jul-12 17:49:27

That got me looking at Dorothy Parker quotes on wiki - I hadn't seen this one before.

"You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think."

jeni Sun 08-Jul-12 17:57:42

shock

gracesmum Sun 08-Jul-12 22:23:23

gringrin

Maniac Mon 09-Jul-12 15:31:09

I so agree with most of you about 'Rosemary and Thyme'. Right from the start I thought it was awful and wondered why these two successful actresses took it on.
It's like a corny version of 'Angela Brazil's school stories. Is it meant to be a 'send up'

Greatnan Mon 09-Jul-12 16:04:54

Katherine Hepburn was the butt of Dorothy Parker's comment.

JessM Mon 09-Jul-12 16:13:51

Now lets think about this - Felicity and Pam get offered a gig in which they get paid to do easy acting and visit a whole lot of lovely locations and gardens. And get paid. It is very light harmless entertainment.
My MIL loves that channel - Morse, Monarch, Marple etc etc - but who does she like best.... yr man Gibbs from NCIS (don't blame her. he can rescue me from bad guys any day)

johanna Mon 09-Jul-12 19:20:06

Nooooo, jess. That stupid haircut!
Men with fringes, horrible.
