The guy who made The Killing, The Bridge and Wallander is filming a new series in.....NOTTINGHAM! Not sure how I feel about this, living just up the road confused. Says it's cause the place feels so aggressive. Will be on BBC2 next month. No Morris Dancing in that, I bet.....

Interesting - that's where I was born, and lived until I was 20 or so. And NOT in the most salubrious district either. But I thoroughly enjoyed being a teenager in the city.

Yes; I spent many years driving my kids backwards and forwards from the place at very unsociable hours [growing up in a village they couldn't get enough of Nottingham]. I'd get a phone call at 2 in the morning and find myself driving there half asleep trying to remember where exactly I was going. It's interesting that the director said that having a University in a city [and Nottingham has two] usually has a softening affect on a place, but it hasn't done so in Nottingham. I know when I first knew the S.O. [who hails from Nottingham] I was surpried how he would be so careful to activate the security locks on the car in certain places. This could be a good thing for tourism but not so good for people trying to sell property there sad.

I live very near to Nottingham and it really does get a bad press doesn't it? I don't think it's any worse than any other big city; it has its fair share of problems and yes, there are some rough areas (again, isn't that true of any city?) but I have never felt unsafe either working there or on the rare occasions I go out in the evenings.

To quote jeni on an earlier thread I think it's all 'b******t'
