Pointless

We watch Pointless regularly, and like to follow the contestants through to the end, but twice in the past fortnight the programme has been shown out of sequence, and we have (as yesterday evening) no idea how the returning contestants got on in the last round, and what happened to the remaining pairs from the night before - those avid watches will know what I am talking about. It is really very frustrating!

I only watch Eggheads on the off-chance that some team will manage to beat them and wipe the smirks off their smug mugs. Having said that, I do like Pat who also won the Mastermind of Masterminds or whatever it's called.

It amazes me how little young people know on these quiz shows, even University Challenge. They come out with words pronounced wrongly because they have never read them, only heard them spoken(probably wrongly)!

I don't pretend to be the brain of Britain but these quizzes make me feel really clever! wink

Judith , Pat and Kevin are not too annoying, but CJ is a pain.. I dislike Chris too .
I wince whenever the presenter congratulates someone on getting a pathetically simple question right, or 'teases' Judith about her supposed wealth.
Is it being an intellectual snob to be surprised at the ignorance shown by competitors who presumably think they are pretty knowledgeable or they wouldn't enter? One English Literature student said he had heard of T.S.Eliot but not Coleridge.

POGS I can't watch Eggheads because I find them all so very conceted (sp) especially CJ

I do agree about C.J on Eggheads I also find the presenter annoying the way he repeats the same phrases time after time.We can count even if we're not Eggheads!

Do any of you remember Alexander Armstrong starring in a programme about a vets practice,it was a comedy. If you do then you will know what I mean when I say all I see is him riding naked on a pig through the town.

I really enjoy Eggheads but does anyone else find C.J the most annoying person under the sun?. So smug.

I don't know this, what time is it on?

Our DGDs are now hooked on Pointless having been introduced to it during the Easter holidays while they were staying with us. They now think these afternoon quiz programmes, which they previously thought were only on to keep old people happy, are well worth watching. Pointless and Perfection are great family programmes as most of us old codgers haven't a clue about modern films/pop music/ celebs etc. and the kids love it when they can tell us a thing or two.

Oh! yes, Soop, aren't they just!

Pointless is entertaining. Alexander and Richard [dishy dudes] have a good rapport. smile

Or as George Best replied - 'Women, drink and fast cars - the rest I will squander'.

I am a compulsive quiz watcher- Countdown, Pointless, Eggheads, The Weakest Link, Perfection, University Challenge, Mastermind.....and Brain of Britain on Radio 4.
When people get a question wrong to which I know the answer, I get a delightful feeling of superiority. smile

Private Eye has a Dumb Britain item - this week's pearls include:
Name a Labour cabinet minister between 1997 and 2010 - reply: Boris Johnson

I always get the impression that Alexander Armstrong seems rather uncomfortable hosting Pointless - as if he wishes he was somewhere else, doing "proper tele"! I think his talents are underutilised doing Pointless. I don't watch quiz shows these days, but have watched this a few times and quite like it. I wish they wouldn't ask people what they will spend the money on (they do it on Flog it! as well) - I'm waiting for someone to say "Mind your own business!".

MrsJamJam Wed 25-Apr-12 11:45:44

Tend to catch the end of this while waiting for the news, and am becoming irritated by the way Alexander Armstrong says exactly the same things to every pair of contestants. 'If you win £x, what are you going to spend the money on?'

Wish he could think of something new to say.

Maniac Wed 25-Apr-12 11:40:24

Don't normally watch quiz shows-too much hype but I do like 'Pointless'.Its success largely due to presenter Alexander Armstrong.
I also watch 'Eggheads'

Does anyone else watch this really entertaining 'quiz'. The first time I saw it I was doing the ironing and thought what a stupid quiz it was, then my other half was poorly and took to watching pm television and we are now well and truly hooked.
