Is anyone else confused by the roles that the pathologists are taking in this series - they appear to more like detectives/private investigators now. Also DOH and I think that the story lines have become way too far-fetched. In fact, we just had to switch off!

I used to enjoy SW when it first started although the late Mr.G couldn't abide it. The last couple of series are just laughable, although having said that I tried to watch last night and had to disappear behind the sofa (like I did as a child for Dr Who!). I am totally confused by the story line - rather like the ongoing conversations on Forum Etiquette - am I just simple and slow to catch-on perhaps? hmm I really think it's time to say enough is enough grin

I used to like this too but I have given up for now. I just feel a bit over-murdered if you know what I mean. I love the forensic science bit but I don't really want to the see the PM. i juts like the old fashioned A Christie type murders - the investigation rather than the act itself.

Oh I did like this last one. Actually managed to follow the story, with the help of second time watching on i-player, with sub titles which also helped! grin

It's good brain exercise if nothing else.

And I think the Fox woman is much better than that last one who always had the weird half smile on her face.

We had trouble following the storyline in this weeks SW , there were so many interwoven characters I was losing track of who, what and where.. very complicated story. DH nodded off in the end and I had to 'try' and explain it to him, I don't actually think I did a very good job. grin

Far to grusome for me I gave up on the first episode I too was behind the cushion and only peeking then gave up and went to bed.

Never got on with this one - neither the first series or subsequent ones. I prefer the US ones like CSI. The UK ones all seem to ernest and serious and dull!

I agree granb. the roles of pathologist and detective are very confused in this series. I am sure that a pathologist would never be investigating a crime. Rather gruesome too I had to watch from behind a cushion. Will still be watching it though as I find it rather clever and interesting, particular the work of pathologists.

I actually managed to follow the latest SW - much to my surprise. My husband was at a loss, which is most unusual (but then he did fall asleep half way through). I just think it has gone a bit OTT, but enjoy it never-the-less. There is so much technology now involved in solving crimes, it is interesting to see how it works, because I presume some of the information in the series is fact.

I`ve always liked this programme, but the last couple of series have been terrible regarding sound quality, we keep turning the volume up, but it`s more muffled than quiet, so increasing the volume doesn`t really help.

imjingl Tue 24-Apr-12 19:21:57

That's why I watch it again on i-player Numberplease. Well, and to sort it out. Glad it's not just me.

I just have to hear the warning 'some viewers may find some of the scenes disturbing' and I instantly change channels! Like Gally I used to hide when Dr Who was on.......and 'Your Life in their Hands', scariest programme ever!

Anagram Tue 24-Apr-12 20:13:31

I think Silent Witness goes over the top with its depiction of brutal violence, which is why I stopped watching it. OH still does, but even he says it's very gruesome.

greenmossgiel Tue 24-Apr-12 20:18:10

We'd turned over to watch the programme that was coming on afterwards, and we caught the end of Silent Witness. It was horrible. The scene and the sounds have stayed in my mind.

I see the BBC has received over 500 complaints about the last two-parter in this series - mostly about the toilet scene, which I happened to catch because I came into the room at the wrong time! It was horrible, but of course the BBC has responded by more or less saying we shouldn't watch it if we don't like it!

imjingl Fri 27-Apr-12 19:18:33

That's the answer I got when I complained about the episode showing the little boy being killed, which, for me, was the worst ever.

greenmossgiel Fri 27-Apr-12 19:28:23

Annobel, that was the scene I meant. We'd just changed channels to catch the next programme and it was on. Horrible and foul. angry OK - we don't have to watch it if we don't like it - but how could anyone like it. sad

Anagram Fri 27-Apr-12 20:25:54

Did you mean Anagram, green? grin

Yes, that was how I happened on it - couldn't quite believe what I was watching.

greenmossgiel Fri 27-Apr-12 20:41:47

Oops - sorry, Anagram and Annobel! I wasn't concentrating properly because I was so annoyed!

If I might add my two penn'orth:

I know of one person whose son died in a road accident. On being told of the need for a post-mortem, she was reminded of seeing the gory depictions on 'Silent Witness" was doubly traumatised. She still has nightmares about her son being, as she put it, carved up and displayed like a piece of meat.

Does anyone else agree that realistic depictions are one thing, but having a camera hover over bodies after, or even during post mortem examinations come close to being offensive as well as ghoulish?
