Read the Guardian blog on the Bridge. I didn't realise that the white van at the end of the episode was leaving cases of poisoned wine for the homeless.

I missed it as we are staying with friends, but will catch up with it when home. I do love that Saturdat night slot, loved Montalbano, and am now looking forward to this.

I'm with you greenmossgiel in that I enjoyed it and it is the first Scandinavian thriller that I have watched. Compare this to tonight's Vera!!
No comparison as The Bridge has many interesting entwined story lines, personal relationships and is relatively fast moving. Vera ZZZZZZZ! ZZZZZ! depressingly dull.

Oh heck, they're repeated all over the place....

Was looking after the grandchildren yesterday so missed it. Is it repeated later in the week?

No, afraid not.

No Hattie64 ...I hadn't realised the 'social worker' link either. Did the article explain anything else??

Hattie64 Sun 22-Apr-12 19:50:50

I too enjoyed it. I didn't realise, until reading a review in the Observer today, that the chap with the moustache who took the girl to that house, is a social worker!!! The heart transplant patient must be linked somewhere. I loved the bit when he confessed that he was going to leave his wife and then died.

DH got very excited watching The Bridge last night and kept exclaiming that we had sailed under The Bridge last year and reminding me that he took lots of photographs of it because it was so new and awe-inspiring.

We soon forgot there were subtitles (thanks to our big new television!) and were utterly absorbed for two hours. Great acting, great atmosphere and great storylines.

Can anyone guess what the heart transplant patient and his wife (now widow) have got to do with the plot? Is it to do with the ambulance crossing the bridge in the opening sequences? Gransnetter sleuths to the fore please ...

I'm loving The Bridge too! I've really enjoyed all the Scandinavian series that have been shown on BBC4. Funny thing is, although I can't understand the language, I have to have the volume up at normal strength or it just doesn't seem right!

Looking forward to next Saturday

I thought it was really good - I haven't watched any of the Scandinavian thrillers up till now, and wish I had. The gloomy coldness of the scenery makes it all the more atmospheric.

Misshap, good point about what makes these things appealing. For me its not recognising any of the actors so that I see only the characters. Also in the UK if you see a big named actor briefly in a series you know its him what dun it!

Only saw episode one as I fell asleep - but it is recorded, so I will watch it later. I thought it was good.
I often wonder what these Scandinavian progs would be like if they were in English - would we like them as much or is the appeal their "foreignness"?
I am sure that there are lots of nuances in there about the Danish/Swedish rivalry that are lost on us - and we do not grasp the differences in accents, which are probably important in this series.

Trust me I forgot all about it do you think it will be on catch-up from to-morrow?

gangy5 Sat 21-Apr-12 23:22:44

Yes - I enjoyed it. Looking forward to next week!!

Jacey Sat 21-Apr-12 23:11:44

Wow ...I'm hooked!!
Not sure I understand how all the side stories will eventually link in ...but ...I'm in for the long haulsmile

My tv programme thingy is already set up ...tak

gracesmum Tue 17-Apr-12 22:01:29

Tak! for that news Hattie64!! Saturdays may be bearable after all.

Hattie64 Tue 17-Apr-12 20:30:34

Don't fret it has not started yet!!! Saturday BBC4, a Danish/Swedish co production. According to the Radio Times it is going to be a real 'cracker'. A dead body found on a bridge between Denmark and Sweden, and a new female detective. Can't wait.
