Have any of you been watching this series on BBC 4 Saturday nights? I should have posted before as I feel that the series could be nearing it's end.
I love it - the inspector is delicious as is the scenery of Sicily where it is set. I find it so refreshingly realistic with storylines that are uncomplicated. Our detetective series produced here are so dark and depressing to watch.
With the juicy detective and the sunshine I feel totally uplifted after viewing.

I particularly laughed at the episode when he was supposed to be watching porn videos (presumably evidence) and slept through the whole lot!

vegasmags Sat 14-Apr-12 19:26:39

Can't believe it's the last episode tonight! He's so gorgeous and his character is equally well developed. I'm going to really miss this. I love the comic touches and his obsession with food. I'm looking forward to reading the books while waiting for series 2.

Will he ever marry Livia? I don't think so. Will there ever be waves when he's swimming in the sea? Can I resist the temptation to answer the phone 'Montalbano solo'?

glammanana Sat 14-Apr-12 22:47:07

vegas how well developed do you want him to be or is that getting a wee bit personal.blush green don't get to jealous now will you ?

gracesmum Sat 14-Apr-12 22:53:45

I have just googled him and apparently "Pronto, Montalbano sono" is a Sicilian dialect way of answering the phone. Well, there you go. Now we can all swear in Danish and aswer the phone in equally fluent Sicilian Italian grin

glammanana Sat 14-Apr-12 23:07:11

pronto, gracesmum sono sounds very cosmopolitan I must say,I must get practising

vegasmags Sat 14-Apr-12 23:17:01

Glammanana, he can be as well developed as he likes for me!

And let's not forget all the Swedish we mastered in Wallander. Tak, everyone

glammanana Sat 14-Apr-12 23:36:58

I wonder if we are going to have any Spanish series on any time soon I could do with the sight of some Guarda Civil officers in their nicely tailored uniforms,my friend and I used to go officer spotting when we went to the local market when I lived in Spain I am sure those trousers where sprayed on just for the delight of the local ladies.Another thing was that there where never any ugly officers they all had movie star looks.

Lovely last episode with lots of humour - but I did notice that Salvo is a bit bandy-legged!

Jacey Sun 15-Apr-12 10:34:44

Well Mishap ...I wouldn't be walking behind him ...but ...snuggled into his side ..his arm enclosing my waist ... warm breathe whispering Sicilian Italian into my ear ....trust you get the picture!!! [dream on] emocion

glammanana Sun 15-Apr-12 11:12:18

mishap never mind the bandy legs you can't see them under the duvet ?grin

gracesmum Sun 15-Apr-12 11:47:38

You're right, he is quite squat and the legs arre definitely bandy. But Mimi (unfortunate name) is tall, dark and handsome as is the young chap with the "sheep's eyes". Oh what am I going to do on Saturday nights now?

SOOP Sun 15-Apr-12 12:41:07

Jacey My sentiments too wink

glamma that made me chuckle! grin

gracesmum dream-boat will return smile

Mishap Sun 15-Apr-12 12:44:54

Calm down now ladies! - are you sure this is good for you?! What will OH think? You could always close your eyes and think of Salvo though!

SOOP Sun 15-Apr-12 12:51:50

Mishap Is Montalbano good for us? Pulse rate quickens. Flush to the cheeks. Heartbeat up-beat. Extremities all of a tingle. Answer is ...YAY! grin

Stansgran Sun 15-Apr-12 13:04:35

yes but husband watching at the same time and CONSTANTLY asking for explanation as to the plot. What plot? who's looking for a plot? Advert for holiday in Sicily cut out and placed strategically on pile of newspaper.
You have made my day saying there will be a new season.

greenmossgiel Sun 15-Apr-12 13:13:20

Well, my OH noticed that Salvo had bandy legs - and sneered (!) My OH doesn't have bandy legs, but his are very, very thin......I think he'd have preferred Salvo's bandy ones...grin

You mischievious Band of Mumsnetters Whatever turns you on - he certainly turns me on!! O dear - not sure that I should put this!! - will have to check that I've enough pantyliners in stock for the next series!!!

MaggieP Mon 16-Apr-12 16:45:52

Yes, it's been a great series, lovely man and scenery. He doesn't appreciate Livia enough though!
Watch out for The Bridge, another latest Scandinavian thriller, starting next Saturday on BBC 4 with much fanfare too.
So much to watch......grin

Jacey Mon 16-Apr-12 17:22:06

Thanx MaggieP ...have just put that into my automatic tv programme thingy. I see it's a 10 parter ...but in both Swedish and Danish! confused

Have actually sailed under that 'bridge' ...so hopefully we'll get scenes of both Copenhagen and Malmosmile

Soutra Sat 12-Jul-14 22:45:55

Saturdays have picked up again OK so these are repeats but I don't care smile

gangy5 Sun 13-Jul-14 20:11:19

I agree with you Soutra I also don't care that they are repeats and am enjoying them again the second time around. I do wish that there was some news of a new series in the offing!!

rosesarered Sun 13-Jul-14 20:17:10

I also like the series of Young Montalbano, have you watched this?

papaoscar Sun 13-Jul-14 20:39:20

Those who like Inspector Montalbano might also like his contemporary, Aurelio Zen, the Rome-based detective creation of Michael Dibdin. Starting with 'Ratking' his stories explore the dark side of Rome and the Varican whilst delving into some glorious-sounding italian restaurants and cuisine.

papaoscar Sun 13-Jul-14 20:40:39

Ps: I think that there is also a tv series of the Zen stories.

Deedaa Sun 13-Jul-14 21:44:43

I think there were four of the Aurelio Zen stories on TV some time ago, but for some reason the BBC decided not to make any more. I wish they would do the Brunetti books. I know they've been done in Germany but Italian stories, filmed in German and then sub titled in English might be getting too complicated!
