Has anyone else been watching this? I caught a glimpse of the first series, so thought I would try it, but really I am finding it quite disturbing. There is something rather creepy about it, or am I just being stuffy?confused

Anagram I agree, what child runs into a total stranger's arms? I still find the whole thing creepy, and don't think I'll watch again, if there is another series. Waste of two good actors. Will never forget Alfred Molina covered in chocolate in Chocolat! smile!

I'm afraid I thought the ending was totally unbelievable!

shysal Thu 15-Mar-12 16:20:46

There was actually quite a sweet ending, surprisingly. I was expecting it just to fizzle out. smile

Last episode of Roger and Val tonight, featuring an argument about cheese....can't wait!

Oh, no, I couldn't stand Gavin and Stacey! Had high hopes for Roger and Val, but think this latest series is actually quite boring. I agree about Sarah Millican - we've been to see her live and she's brilliant (even OH likes her!), but the chatshow format doesn't really work. It's a bit like Mrs Merton but without the witty put-downs! grin

I too find 'Rog' and Val creepy. I never liked The Office nor the Royale Family. Love Michael McIntyre and a strange series called Jinsey. At the time I loved Monty Python, but not sure that I would still feel the same about it. Gavin & Stacey was good as was The Cafe. grin

Oh no, I've done it again - and I did preview it!

Annobel Mon 12-Mar-12 20:34:00

Her first show was last week and I found it very laboured. I don't think the format suited her as she's a stand-up comic and bouncing jokes off 'guests' isn't her usual modus operandi.

I love that Geordie woman too (Sarah Millican?) and she has a new series starting on Thursday at 10 pm (I think) but don't ask me which channel either. confused

Same here Annobel. The Office annoyed my in that I always felt Ricky Gervaise was laughing at himself, and, to me humour has to be deadpan or it doesn't work [Billy Connolly does the same], although I loved 'Extra's'. I never found that Little Britain did anything new; grown men dressed in women's clothes is not enough to make me laugh [although I did like League of Gentlemen, probably bacause of it's darkness]. I also loved the first couple of series of The Mighty Boosh, because the first time I saw it it was so different to anything I had ever sen before, and it blew me away. Round the Horne still reduces me to tears. Harry Enfield was amazing for a few years; The Aliens being one of the funniest comic creations ever; me and the kids used to walk round pointing at things in a 'a tree' way for a long time, tittering to ourselves. And that Geordie woman makes me laugh. We went to see Omid the other week, as I'd seen him on the telly and found him very funny, and were bitterly disappointed.

My admission is that I never 'got' The Office or Little Britain.

Agree no monty python! Nor tommy cooper! Love the goons though!

kittylester Sat 10-Mar-12 17:39:50

Sssshhhh! nor do I - but that might be treason!(worried emoticon)

Annika Sat 10-Mar-12 17:29:11

shysal I forgot the Goons I am with you with that one, talking in a stupid voice is not funny. !

shysal Sat 10-Mar-12 17:26:50

Agree about Monty Python. I have an even worse admission - I did not like the Goons either blush

Annika Sat 10-Mar-12 17:24:40

kitylester you are welcome come and stand with me and perhaps we can make a crowd if there are more brave souls out there.grin

kittylester Sat 10-Mar-12 17:14:22

Thank you Annika that was brave. I'll come out too (?) and admit I can't stand it either. blush

I loved "Early Doors", its a shame another series was never made. sad
I can't "get into" Rodger and Val at all I don't think it is funny at but then as has been said before comedy is such a personal thing.
There is one comedy series that is very popular and I think to stand up and say that I "don't get it" and I do not find it funny one little bit might make me a little odd is.... (we have to go back a little bit here) ... Monty Python ! There I've said it !!grin

nanachrissy Sat 10-Mar-12 15:59:45

Dahlia I loved "Early doors". Only saw a couple, but I worked in a pub and the characters were exactly like that!!

flowerfriend Sat 10-Mar-12 11:01:56

R and V. I find this creepy and depressing. There are people just like this couple I feel sure. This isnt something I want to watch before going to bed. I shant again.

Re Roger and Val..angry I am being driven CRAZY by the same trailer for this dreadful series, which is being run over and over again every night. We've got a new telly and I can't find the mute button on the remote in time to zap it! If I had ever been tempted to watch this programme, the constant repetition of the same trailer tells me that the producers are so insensitive to their viewers, that the programme must therefore be unwatchable. For goodness sake R & V producers, if you must keep running a trailer, at least change the clip!

dahlia Sun 04-Mar-12 18:04:03

Didn't watch R & V at all, but loved "Rev". It was the acerbity of his wife that balanced his so-sweet nature that brought it to life, and I think the Christmas episode was the funniest yet.
We did try "The Cafe" but gave up after episode 3: too much of the same line e.g. "laters", it was a bit formulaic. Has anyone else seen "Early Doors", set in a Manchester 'pub? Rather rude, very funny - I do like really well-drawn characters, and this had plenty of them. I laughed and also cried at times, it was unexpectedly tender.
We still watch the re-runs of "Frasier", for all the above reasons. Comedy is such a personal thing, I hesitate before recommending anything in case others hate it!

I find Roger and Val bit heavy.Loved 'Rev',Miranda and 'Outnumbered'.Like you I'm fascinated by the decor in some series.-and how they manage to redecorate almost overnight in the latest trends.

crimson Fri 24-Feb-12 19:47:48

There's always an undercurrent with Roger and Val. For the duration of the first series nothing was said of their terrible loss until the last episode. I agree that there's something unsettling about it. On a lighter note, I'm fascinated by how they decorate the houses of people in these programmes; I'd love to do something like that. Imagine what the job spec must be for different programmes from comedy to Dallas.
