Back to Jersey again!

It's not exotic or exciting but we enjoyed our visit two years ago and, despite various more exotic holidays, we found we'd enjoyed it most. Just booked for next year.
Anyone quite happy to be seen as boring?

We have a couple of repeat places we visit frequently.

We also try to visit a new place each year, usually far flung, but sometimes in the U.K.

(We came back from Jersey a couple of weeks ago, we love it there, visited places we hadn’t before. Found an absolutely fabulous restaurant, along with an outside terrace bar at a hotel (not the hotel we were staying at) good for people watching and lunch)

Absolutely! We like new CB places, but we also love places already visited and want to return.

It’s not boring at all!

We loved Jersey. Hired a little car and went everywhere on the island.

We had a great trip to Jersey this year, we have friends who have recently moved there, we had 4 nights in hotels and 4 with our friends.

One of the highlights was a farm to fork supper, it was in a poly tunnel on a remote farm, the food was outstanding and we met so many “Jersey Beans” as we were the only non locals.

A beautiful part of Britain and lovely people.

What’s not to like?

I really enjoyed our stay in St Brelade's Bay a year or so ago. I think it's a very nice island and the flying time from Gatwick, an exhausting 31 minutes grin which was most appealing.

rosie1959 Tue 13-Oct-26 15:05:25

We have been going for several years because we enjoy it just booked next years trip. We also go to other places in the UK but Jersey is just that notch above.

I do like Jersey, but on the whole prefer Guernsey.
We often go back for a few days to places we like, tho still enjoy discovering new places too.

Aveline Tue 13-Oct-26 15:20:27

I think I've discovered enough new

places and types of holiday. Have now refined it down to:
1) one direct flight, no connecting flights.
2) no more long haul flights
3) no more tours staying at different places for a night or two then moving on
4) no bus trips
5) no train trips
6) no more cruises on sea or river
So Madeira and Jersey for us!

Try to fit Guernsey in this time. If you stayed overnight in Guernsey you could take a trip to Sark. It's like stepping back in time. A little gem.

LifeOfBriony Tue 13-Oct-26 17:41:48

I love Jersey, although I’m biased because I used to have family there.

I’d also recommend Guernsey and a day trip to Sark from there.

@Aveline - I’ve never been to Madeira; what do you particularly like about it?

rosie1959 Tue 13-Oct-26 17:45:29

We have never flown to Jersey can't quite get the hang of packing for a two week stay into one small suitcase so chuck it all in the car and take it with us.
Apart from that don't think my DH would fit very well in aircraft seats lol
Much more room on the ferry

Casdon Tue 13-Oct-26 17:50:08

We have a timeshare in Cornwall, and have been going there for a week in the spring every year for 30 years, but other than that, I like to go somewhere different every year for my main holiday. I feel as though time’s running out to see everywhere I want to.

MartavTaurus Tue 13-Oct-26 18:51:21

If you like it, then there's nothing wrong with going back to the same place year in year out.
I like Jersey too, fond memories of spending my Sundays on the island every few weeks waiting for my onward Devon flight to do a week's work back in the UK.
There's something a bit special about it, I think.
Have a lovely time!

Aveline Tue 13-Oct-26 18:58:48

We went to Guernsey this year and quite liked it but it was during the hottest weather so we were pretty miserable.
Re Madeira I love the tropical greenness and general lushness. Nice climate too. We've found a favourite hotel so are happy to go back there too. Pic of DH on our terrace in Madeira

GrannyGravy13 Tue 13-Oct-26 19:18:49

Aveline I think I might recognise that hotel.
We really enjoy Madeira for a late spring break (end of May beginning of June)

Aveline Tue 13-Oct-26 20:17:37

It's the one with the giant tortoise Colombus

Have you been for New Year's Eve?
Funchal is spectacular!

Bukkie Tue 13-Oct-26 22:13:04

Yes our favourite two places in the whole world are Isle of Man and Norway. I would happily holiday in these two destinations for the rest of my days. We also love Jersey and Kendal.

Sarnia Wed 14-Oct-26 07:50:40

I left a post further up the thread suggesting an overnight in Guernsey.
The Top 10 British Islands 2026 has just been announced.
Guernsey 2nd and Jersey 5th. Another good reason to go.

Aveline Wed 14-Oct-26 08:01:19

We did like Guernsey but enjoyed our previous stay in Jersey more. Horses for courses!
Incidentally, we found both Jersey and Guernsey to be not too full of tourists. That was a lovely change from some of our other holidays elsewhere.

SpinDriftCoastal Wed 14-Oct-26 08:36:36

Best time to to go Jersey is in the spring, summer or autumn. Some of the little country lanes are just so enchanting as is the rugged coastline. Guernsey also has its charms, especially St Peter Port. I would do a split holiday between the two. Old Government House in St Peter Port and Greenhills in Jersey.

Margs Wed 14-Oct-26 13:39:08

And why not if you liked it the first time round?

At least it's not a cruise - there are some dreadful YouTube clips of anti-social antics onboard, and the thing about a cruise is you're literally trapped with these 'characters'.

Coconut Wed 14-Oct-26 13:55:14

Son number 2 lives in Jersey so being a dutiful mother 🫢 I have to visit every other month ! Absolutely love the island and never tire of it.

Aveline Wed 14-Oct-26 14:43:10

Margs we've been on many cruises. Nothing like the sensationalised TV programmes.
