We are thinking of replacing our 16 year old TV in the living room. I've been researching online and find all the info to be rather overwhelming.confused

The only thing we can decide is the size, 50inch seems to be right for the room.

We have a basic Sky package including Netflix which is enough for us - we don't need sport, kids or movie channels.

DH is hard of hearing so is a 'sound bar' a good idea?

Any suggestions and info will be much appreciated as we'll probably have this TV for 16 years too. grin

A smart tv will have the facility to plug in an external hard drive, giving recording capabilities.

Sound clarity is important; especially with newer US programmes. Try watching NCIS Miami to see what I mean.

Soundbars make this better, but if it is just him then you need one with multiple USB ports to add a wire free speaker right next to him.

My new tv arrived today. I was limited to about three in that I had to have a 32 inch with freely and a central stand. It’s Mitchell and Brown, which I’ve never heard of. It sounds like a tv comedy duo. I’m scared to plug it in in case it doesn’t work…I’ve got an early start tomorrow and know that, if I start fiddling with it I’ll be up all night. At least it was delivered quickly and safely via Debenhams. I wish the tv engineer I used to use hadn’t disappeared although he did seem to only specialise in Humax.

The last TV we bought (an LG!) was obsolete after only 7 years. We refused to buy another and bought a Chromecast to plug in instead. It has lasted for many years and if it ever becomes obsolete it will be much cheaper to replace. But I yearn for pre-digital days when you could switch on the TV, type in the channel number on the remote and be ready to watch your programme in under 30 seconds....

My voice activated TV gives me the programs I want in under 10 seconds.

Bought my last TV ( Panasonic) from.British Heart Foundation charity shop as a stop gap...that was 7 years ago and it's still working well .
It's not ' Smart ' but I view that as a plus !
So if budget is tight might be worth a look

We’ve LG and Samson and both smart, both easy.

My tv engineer (who prescribed my poorly set as beyond help) recommended LG and even did a screenshot of which model to get.
I’ve an issue with my bedroom tv and I’m going to get one with Freely, which works via the house internet, as my tv signal is compromised by my neighbour’s sycamore.

Well, iplayer now seems to be gone from my old tv. Fingers crossed the new one works when I plug it in. I get so frustrated with being so technically incompetent.
