New tablet recommendations

This is an old thread, and had been boosted by an advertiser, so I'd think the problem was sorted.

I've got a Samsung A9+ tablet which is the right size for you. It has 128gb of storage. It is about £210 but I got mine for about £180 when there was an offer on. I've been very pleased with it. Good luck with getting one to suit you as I know buying tech can be a minefield.

I bought a 10 inch Flycoay with Android 14 as my previous 8 inch was Android 8 and wouldn't upgrade to 14. Seems to work fine though I would have liked an 8 inch.

When I decided to update my old Galaxy tablet I bought a Galaxy tablet A9+. It is a 10", it would have been about £289 but I managed to get it in a sale at just under £200. Amazon have it on offer for £204 at the moment. I've been really pleased with it as it has good colour and does everything I want well. Good luck with whatever you decide to buy.x

BigBertha1 - As I said in my OP I have always had Samsung, but the last one had very poor colour. I am pleased with the new Lenovo I have just bought, see my post yesterday to MOnica. But it is Google Chrome not Android. It did take me a few days to get used to it. The trouble is there is such choice nowadays. If your husband liked his old Samsung maybe it would be better to stick to the tried and tested.

LittkeAnnie thank you for asking the question. DH has a Samsung which he loved but its showing its age. I would like to buy him a new one for Xmas - up to £500 (its a special year he's been poorly and not getting any younger who is?). He will absolutely NOT want an I-pad or anything Apple so any recommendations for an android would be warmly welcomed here.

MOnica - just looking on Amazon, that model I bought doesn't seem to be there any more, just more expensive ones. But I think it is on Argos.

Thank you Littleannie that information is very helpful. I want to use my tablet as an extension of my smart phone, which I find difficult to use because of my dyspraxia and numb fingertips.

Anyway I bought a Lenovo Ideapad from Amazon a few weeks ago. With postage it was just over £150. It is a 10 "tablet with a detachable keyboard. So you can either hold it in your hand like a tablet, or attach the keyboard and use it like a small laptop. I love it!
It took a few days to get used to it as it doesn't work on the Android system. It works on the Google Chrome system like the new Chromebooks you see in the shops. It uses cloud storage. But I soon got the hang of it. The advantage is that you can type on a proper keyboard instead of jabbing with one finger on a tablet! I am very pleased with it.

I am like the OP, I want an android tablet. So all these endorsements for the ipad, while very satisfying for the poster are completely useless to us, so please if you love your ipad, make it a private devotion or start an apple ipad adoration thread separately

In the meanwhile, like littleannie any recommendations for an android pad that costs less than £200?

Happy to disagree here. Apple have a habit of upgrading the iOS system and making your £1000 worth of tech redundant after a few years. I’ve always been an Apple fan but I’ve been very impressed with recent Android purchases, which do 99% of the tasks for 20% of the price.

So I suggest you look at Lenovo series. I’ve purchased a 10 Inch for MIL and it is very smooth and clear. I then bought a cheap M7 for me to work with and for £80 it works well.

Most Apple fans here I would guess have fallen for the hype and user interface. I use tech for work and I am going to let all my Apple products go out of date from now on and fully change to Android.

I’m just going to treat myself to an apple ipad upgrade for my Christmas I’ll go to an apple shop where all will be transferred from my present one to a newer one. Thank goodness for the cloud my past five years stories will have been kept safe I’ve done it before and I save as I go along

Well, I'm just coming round from a near breakdown setting up an additional Gmail account - why do they want sooooo much information and where is it all going?

It seems to be page after page: verify this, tap this and that......I felt I was losing the will to live when the screen flagged up the area where I live and instructed me to guide the arrow to the street where I abide.

Thank you for your replies but as I specified in my OP I was looking for an Android tablet, not an Apple, with a limit of £200 . I did have an Amazon Fire for a time, but they don't use the PlayStore apps that I want.

And you can buy reconditioned tablets for a lot less than new,the last one I bought was reconditioned. It cost me £250 but came with the two year warranty as well and I’m quite happy with that.

An Apple iPad. Would t have anything else. A basic one is not that expensive as you would think. I just recently gave my 8 year old one to my daughter after I wiped it clean so she could set it up for herself. The only reason I did that was it had recently stopped updating and I used it for banking and buying things on line. My daughter wanted it for reading books, games etc.

Unfortunately, you do have to pay more than £200 to get a tablet that is reliable and has a wide range of uses. I’m an Apple user as well and since they were first on the market, I’ve just got my third. So they do last a long time.

I had a Apple iPad for my birthday and DH has recently bought one too.
Not the most expensive ones mind! They're so quick and easy to use, much easier than my old Samsung.
