The TuTu Skirt?

I agree, the shorty ones are more for fun and partying. Definitely for the young.
The longer ones are quite romantic in a way. Could be a wedding or cruise outfit?

The original classical tutu has a rather unfortunate etymology. It is thought to come from the French, and is a cheeky (!!) word for bum, bottom or arse! Cucu.

In fact I have the beige and black spotted skirt upthread and a burgundy one I am wearing for music recitals. I wouldn’t go near a short one however!

I do think that if you are on the larger side (like me!!!) you have to choose much more carefully if you don't want to go "full apple" though!

Thought I'd just put a couple of photos here - this is the kind of thing I'm talking about.

The waist looks gathered and rather bunchy.

I had a lovely black chiffon skirt years ago, it wasn't gathered, but it was full at the hem, the hem was stiffened with something (soft wire?) So fell in soft waves.

I loved it.

I had a dress very similar to that, many sizes ago. I absolutely loved it and got so many compliments.
It cost me £10 in a sale!!!

Yes some of these most certainly are a bit "bunchy" at the waist but I had an off the shoulder 2 piece once where the floaty skirt was on a basque and that was fabulous. Theh ard probably out there - just need to know where to look!

I don't look good in the long/not very puffy ones but I still have two, they are so comfy and oh well, I may as well live a little while I can!!

They are quite popular amongst the school run locally!

I have a long cream one bought years ago for a wedding. I'm a week off 75, not as slim as I used to be & I still wear it..... not for the school run though.

Gosh I must be well out of order I think they re all awful I wouldn’t be seen dead in any of them even if I was young I wouldn’t want to have one

I love that look and had similar skirts, way back when. Not sure about today, though!

Love the long ones, not the short, puffy ones. I wear mine with a vest, trainers and denim jacket in the Summer. Much cooler than jeans or shorts.
