Does anyone influence what you wear?

Nobody influences me now, but when I was young a friend pointed out a coat and said I ‘d look really good in it. Since she was very well-dressed herself I did take notice and bought it. I must say it was one of my favourite ever items of clothing. It was a slim brown/white fine tweed Jaeger coat, with a high Russian style neck. It cost what seemed to me then a fortune, but it was worth every penny.

I am older and plumper. My 'Bill Nighy' has the same gentle qualities as Nighy; which amuses me. Great minds eh.

I must admit I have a sneaky muse; Anna Wintour. We both have the same hair colour and style and love designer clothes.

I am not influenced by anyone in a positive way, although I once saw an episode of Coronation Street where Mavis (remember her) was wearing a top I had just bought . That went straight out to the charity shop.

This happened to me but it was Vera wearing a blouse from BHS.
I never wore it again

Nobody influences what I wear, I know what suits me colour and style wise and stick to it.
My heterosexual fashionista son often compliments me on what I’m wearing though. Is he a stereotype of some sort I wonder?

I'm sure I am influenced, perhaps without realising it. I see something in a shop window and fancy it. But perhaps I am more influenced by what fits me

I bought 2 tunics from Seasalt last Summer sale . I tried one on recently and realised it doesn't suit me at all so that's going to charity.

Having DH and 3 DS who never commented on my looks and then a DD.
What a difference! She noticed everything I wore and told me what not to wear from an early age.

I love shopping with my daughter and granddaughters, my daughter is very good at putting together outfits for me, but I still go my own way, I love colour, and bought a boucle yellow coat, they all said I looked like a grapefruit, insisted on buying it and yes they were right, I did look like a grapefruit, it’s now in the charity shop bag! So sometimes I take their advice and most of the time I go my own way! I’m in London for a long weekend and shall do some shopping, my daughter has said if it’s over £50, send us a pic first😳🤣

My DIL has a very quiet neutral taste but I like brighter colours.
Anyhow just bought summer dress in bright colours it wasn’t her taste at all but the more I look at it the more I like it
Matalan £14 but only have size 8 but it is more like a10. Has Angel sleeves so covers top of arms. Good.

No. I think we all have our own taste and find our own style and what we feel comfortable in. What other people wear would not necessarily be right for me as we are all different shapes and sizes. Just be yourself and don't worry or be influenced by other people.

No. Interestingly however, my mother died before my youngest daughter was born so they never met but my daughter's style reminds me a lot of my mother's. If my mother was alive and young now, I think she would be very much like my daughter.

By now I know what suits me and I'm not swayed by others.

I like my husband and my own taste. My girls thankfully clothe themselves and leave me to figure out myself - I've never felt a failure yet.

No influencer daughters, granddaughters, great granddaughters.

No one really, although there are a couple of women whose style I admire. Judi Dench is one.

DD could sell snow to eskimos. I have bought a number of items, not just, of clothing after being talked into buying them her. Whether I have always felt later these were good buys, is a moot point.

More to the point is that DDiL, DGD and I have similar tastes, essential leggings/jeggings/skinny jeans, with big sweaters or layers over and Doc Martens (DDiL, DGD) and clumpy shoes (me)

In fact these days, i am more likely to shop with DGD, nearly 16, or possibly DDiL than with DD, and I have more confidence in their taste.

Today I'm all in black , polo neck jumper with midi length pleated leather skirt and black high heeled ankle boots .Not everyones taste but I'm happy in it and my OH just told me I look "amazing”

That sounds a cool outfit, paddyann. I guess you’re not gardening, hoovering, or cleaning the cooker today? Or maybe you are! I love clothes and have lots that I love wearing, but for day to day I usually end up in a practical ‘uniform’ of jeans and jumper.

Not directly but during the pandemic I seemed to lose my “touch” in deciding what to wear for the very few occasions I went anywhere. I think I missed seeing what other people were wearing and found it hard to choose from what I had in the wardrobe I can remember coming back from a (very cold and damp) open air Shakespeare in Regents Park and thinking Why on earth didn’t I wear a particular jumper and (smart) raincoat - mostly because I’d forgotten I had them.
So yes, seeing other people can inform my choices.

I was very surprised to meet a woman I'd worked with over 50 years ago who told me they were all "in awe" at my style ! Wish someone had told me then...lol.
My daughter used to wear similar styles to me including the high heels all the time.Sadly she's bedbound most of the time now but still sends me pictures of things she's found online that she would love to wear and that she thinks I would like too.My GD's ,mid teens will happily raid my wardrobe for shoes and boots and tops .

DD2 is good with make-up and clothes for herself - DD1 not so good, as she’s spent years on building sites, wearing quite an unflattering uniform - think hard hat, hi-viz vest and safety boots!
I’m usually quite decisive, but if I’ve a bit of doubt about something, I value DD2’s opinion - not that I always take notice of it.
