Do you remember what your first items of make-up were? (Not sure if this has been discussed before)

Mascara. I was trying it on, got it stuck in my eye and that was my last time for many years,

Thanks to "petticoat" I had some Rimmel basics awhile, but didn't bother for long, as at Uni the people I mixed with didn't bother.

But I do recall that Twiggy painted on mock freckles to look cute so duly dotted some on which had the family in fits.

Yes, a sparkly green eye shadow. Mascara block where you had to wet the brush and then apply.

Miners Mascara, and I seem to remember a lipstick called Tangye (or Tangee) which was a vaguely tinted lip balm.

Anyone remember Bourjois Rouge when it was in a cardboard container?

AskAlice, my mum wore Candle Glow, in the blue tin. It was rather orange!

My first make up was Outdoor Girl liquid foundation. I started a Saturday job at fourteen in the haberdashery dept. of the Coop dept. store, which had a make up section.
My parents disapproved of make up, especially my father. I used to try all the testers and wash the make off, before I went home.

Eventually, I was promoted to the Boutique dept. I thought I had died and gone to heaven, for it sold Mary Quant make up.
How I lusted after those little, round bottles of nail polish in dark colours.
I was never allowed them!

I remember lots of these items - but no idea what was my very first make-up item.

Possibly my white lipstick - or the deep red/purple/dark aubergine colour one or maybe spit-on mascara.

I know when Biba first opened I bought lip-colours in tiny black pots. I loved the packaging and the feeling that Biba was very youthful and liked that it had a very "out there" look.

Yes, I remember my mum having the Bourjois Rouge in a small round cardboard pot! It had a tiny piece of cloth , possibly felt not sponge, inside the pot, which was used to apply it.

Pale pink lipstick!!

I remember Bourjois Rouge in those tiny cardboard pots. I had a Saturday job in a chemist when I was 15. We used to sell them quite often.

A pale pink lipstick from Miners? bought at the church bazaar much to my mothers horror.

This is bringing back so many memories! When I started work full-time I saved up and bought a whole tin (a bit like a pencil tin) of Mary Quant eyeshadows which were long, thin sticks. You could use them for eyeshadow or liner, but the colours were a bit bizarre! I used the pink and yellow to draw a lightening flash on each eye, a la David Bowie - I must have looked a sight!!

Mary Quant foundation - I was devastated when it was discontinued- Bibba eyeshadow and a white lipstick/eyeshadow by Miners. I must have looked like a clown. 😳😱

I was 15 and had already experimented with bits and pieces of make-up passed on by my older cousins. That summer a women's magazine had a free offer of (I think) a Goya lipstick which I decided would be just right for me. It turned out to be a bright - if not garish - fuschia shade and certainly not right for a wee pale-skinned Scottish lassie, but I didn't give up and probably looked as daft as my mother said I was!
