Jeans - and when to stop wearing them.

goldengirl Treggings is a hybrid term for trousers/leggings. Basically thick leggings! M and S certainly did them a couple of years ago in various lengths. Very warm and comfortable!

I think there has only been one post anti jeans so I think we can take it as read JEANS ARE THE BEST ?? for most people whatever age

I'm nearly 68 and I wear straight cut jeans all the time. I'm quite short, a bit on the dumpy side but not especially fat and I think they look OK.

If I had to go one size bigger to get into them, I would probably give up wearing them. Otherwise, I'll continue.

Yes another here who intends to wear jeans in perpetuity, why not? At my age early 60s, I wouldn't entertain anything ridiculous like the ones with rips and slashes. I've grown up with jeans and can't envisage a time when I would want to ditch them.

trishal it depends on your size and what you’re wearing with it if you can get away with skinny jeans. If you’re a tad wide on the hips then a long top, perhaps a tunic, can still look good. Skinnies are great tucked into boots too.

Treggings sound like they’re 3-legged ?

Why stop wearing jeans, they belong to our generation.
I'm 80 and am still wearing them and will continue to do so.
If you are too fat for jeans then that is another viewpoint but I am tall and and I like myself in jeans and the DDs haven't said anything negative either.
Giving them up is nothing to do with age. I think Fr Mey would look better in jeans than those silly skirts she sometimes wears.

trisha13 it sounds like we are a similar size. I too tried my DD’s skinny jeans, they laughed at me having any doubts about looking ridiculous at 68 and assured me they would be the first to say, not sure about that Mum.. I have skinny jeans and jeggings in a few different colours which I mix and match with various tops. When buying shirts to hang over the waistband,I prefer a style which has a shirt tail, curved at the hem line as opposed to straight across hem line which cuts my legs off in a sharp line.

Love jeans, the jeggings type with skinny legs, much more flattering than wider leg styles. I'm 65 in July and my daughters tell me I have great legs, it's my redeeming feature the rest has gone south. I wear them most days, do wear dresses sometimes when I go to work, still work part time

Gosh Trisha13 if only! Id love to wear skinny jeans! The times I've tried slightly skinnier than normal and given up at the first hurdle, viz. the calves . You're not yet 60 - go for it!

love reading all the posts, particularly about wearing jeans past a certain age. I have a hen night coming up, just a meal and a few drinks, my daughter suggested i get myself some skinny jeans but as im coming up to 60 i thought that would be a no no. Anyway i went a bought some but my daughter said i would need a smaller size, i tried hers - size 12 - they didnt look too bad. would you ladies wear skinny jeans or do you wear regular fit? This is my first post so hope its ok

Agus, what a wonderful expression, not heard of using those two words together before but a pleasing result. I will add the expression to my repertoire, DH will be delighted.

The problem with getting jeans to fit is so dependent on the huge variety of the different shapes and sizes of female backsides we woman have, particularly from the waist to crotch even with Saddlebags .

I can wear a pair of M&S Straight leg jeans in a size 12 but many other trousers are far too baggy in the crotch for me.
I have some comfortable "pottering about the house trousers" that I have to fold over at the waist band and I could pull them up to just under my Boobs.

We should all in the privacy of our own bedroom mirrors, honestly ask ourselves "does my bum really look good" in this pair.

Jeans with elasticated waists are pretty good, as long as you don’t tuck your top in! ? ye ha

I think that jeans have come a long way since our beloved Levi’s, so many cuts, fits and fabrics, so no need to be confined in stiff denim any more. They look like denim, but they feel so much nicer. However, I wish I could buy 2 pairs from the same manufacturer, same size and colour on the same day and get both to fit me exactly the same.

I started wearing Levi jeans circa ‘65, had to wear them sitting in a hot bath which we were told would make them shrink to be a better fit as all styles were for males. Levi thankfully began making styles with a female cut.

Still wearing denims/denim jeggings at 68 and I have never found any other garment that has been/is so versatile. I occasionally wear a fitted twin set and pearls with my jeans

I have never listened to fashion advice as to when/what I should wear so, extra bollocks from me.

I do not think you can recommend, it depends on size, yes, but also shape, leg length and half a dozen other imponderables.

I am size 12, was 16, and I get mine from Lands End because I am long in the waist and quite short between waist and groin. Lands End do dropped waist jeans that mean that fit me comfortably around the waist and ensure that the bottom stays a good fit and doesn't sag.

70! mere children. I am 75, still got long legs, still wearing jeans, and intend to wear them to celebrate my 100th birthday, when it comes.

I am 66yrs and have no intention of giving up my jeans, I wear them most of the time.

My MIL is nearly 90 and still wears jeans, all colours, some elasticated, all of them very comfy, often with a shirt or long jumper, always with a pendant necklace and bracelets, good for her I say. Although after her fall and until she gets back on her feet she is wearing normal elasticated trousers, as they are easier for the carers to assist her with. She is longing to get back into her trendy jeans!
