Just having a giggle reading this Mumsnet thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/a1587678-what-will-you-NEVER-wear-because-it-will-make-you-your-mum

I haven't got daughters but dread to think what they'd say about me. However, the good thing about being older and a bit invisible is, you don't actually care that much!

I am surprised that Per Una clothes cropped up in so many posts! I don't buy from there, but thought they were fashionable. I am guilty of wearing a few of the suggestions, such as Cotton Traders shoes, track suit bottoms and Dash tops. I tend to wear similar clothes to those of my DDs, but suspect they don't like my love of bright coloured tops.

I have 3 daughters and I have the impression that they are not too bothered about what I wear - they kindly compliment me sometimes and when they buy me clothes they always get something that is spot on for me. DD2 has just bought me a beautiful White Stuff top for Mothers' Day and it is lovely and just what I would have chosen myself.

Yes shysal, I recognised a few things too, like the comfy shoes. I have gone off a lot of Per Una in recent times, as although I might like the material, I hate the extra frills and flounces, they just overdo it.

Thing is, I think black, brown and grey drain me, bright colours suit me and people compliment me when I wear them occasionally. It isn't easy to buy things I like these days, especially as I am "a larger lady". I do love adding a scarf to a simple outfit.

It's quite interesting to read what the Mums say, can sometimes make you have a rethink and try something different.

I don't think much of my daughter's dress-sense sometimes, but I don't say anything. I wear what I like!
(Agree about Per Una, though - far too frilly and flouncy)

Just skimmed some of those posts. Oh dear hope my daughter isn't one of the posters. One said she wondered if there was a similar one about them on Gransnet . For the record my DDs are gorgeous elegant stylish creatures who have people(men) tripping over their feet as they (DDs) gaze shortsightedly around them unaware of the effect they are having . this is in case they know my alibi on Gransnet

I do not interfere in what my DDs wear - I would not dare! They all have completely different clothing tastes - I do have my opinions of course, but I button my lip!

I have no daughters, but a grown-up GD who doesn't seem to object to my dress sense, though she probably despises my comfy shoes. However, a few weeks ago, I looked at her feet and she was wearing canvas boots that looked just like the black canvas hockey boots we wore sixty years ago. And she certainly wasn't playing hockey - or anything else.

I do have a lot of Per Una circa 2011 and scarves. But I haven't bought much for a year now - sort of overdosed clothes-wise.

My DD does object to me wearing black alot, but I know what suits me and like to add a splash of colour with scalves.I am critisised for wearing jeans alot and not smart pant's but I am comfortable in my choice so leave me be thank you very much.

I think I might have resembled a bag-lady by now if my younger daughter hadn't kept me on the straight and narrow. #invaluabledaughter

3 DSs so doesn't apply to me but 2 of them comment on what I wear and are usually complimentary. Recently bought new boots and DS3's fiancee said they were very fashionable. She often pays me compliments on my clothes.

DD is either critical or says nothing. DDiL says she thinks I always look stylish, I do love DDiL!

There seem to be some very unpleasant daughters over there on mumsnetshock

Ariadne Sat 16-Mar-13 16:05:12

And some of them, I notice, are in the age range of the younger GNs.

Orca Sat 16-Mar-13 16:20:35

Thought some of the observations very astute and funny.

Ana Sat 16-Mar-13 16:26:52

"Ankle boots that fasten with a zip..." confused
What other kind are there? grin

janeainsworth Sat 16-Mar-13 16:30:36

Ones that lace up, like mine Anagrin

Ana Sat 16-Mar-13 16:35:56

I used to have some of those about 10 years ago, Jane! shock
Should've kept 'em.

Sewsilver Sat 16-Mar-13 17:07:49

Don't think any of my DC ever notice what I wear.
I thought some of the comments very funny, made me chortle when I couldn't sleep in the middle of the night

Gemmasue Sat 16-Mar-13 18:04:15

My DD, DIL and I often go clothes shopping together. I appreciate their honesty when I am trying on clothes and they often guide me to try something on, and look good in, that I would normally ignore. I also have items in my wardrobe that they have borrowed. My teenage DD and teenage GD 's sometimes join us although I have never found anything for me in Primark or New Look yet.
I too used to like per una but not the latest range. I wish I had kept all my clothes from the 1960's they seem to be very much in fashion these days.

Deedaa Sat 16-Mar-13 21:43:04

If I threw out all my Per Una I would be going naked! (although the current offerings are hideous) And yes I am that woman who wears the underwear as well. I think my daughter quite likes a lot of my clothes although she does have a way of saying "Is that what you're wearing then?".............

susieb755 Sat 16-Mar-13 22:25:06

My daughter is fab, she is a hairdresser, so keeps me looking good, and we shop together all the time - she tells me if I look like a sheep ( mutton dressed as...) and I am honest if her bum looks big !!

Joan Sat 16-Mar-13 23:54:42

Oh dear. I've no dress sense, but no daughter, so I guess I get away with it. It is all slacks and jumpers in our short winter, or shorts/slacks and tshirts in summer. With sandals. And painted toe nails.

My daughters have good dress sense. They learnt it from me. wink
